Hey guys, new here. I first did some painting on this house about a year ago, and further bits more recently. I painted windows and door (all wooden) the house is about half away from the sea and i used all the regular paints, primer, undercoat and topcoat gloss. The problem is, that the paint is cracking in areas and just not adearing to any of the surfaces anywhere on the outside of the house and buildings, they have outbuildings, garages etc. Just wondering is there any paint on the market specially designed for exsposed and salt water areas, mainly thinking in terms of gloss.

Cheers guys

I read with interest last week the US Chemical Safety and Hazardous investigation board's report on the disaster at Cabin Creek where 5 men lost their lives in a fire caused by MEK and epoxy flashing. I've posted a copy of that report on our EonCoat blog along with my own comments.
This was a tragic event. How convenient it is to place nearly all blame on the entity with the least resources, the contractor. I'm not saying the guys on the job didn't screw up. I am saying that blaming the contractor is not the way to solve the root cause of the problem and save lives. Check out my comments and tell me I'm wrong!

Just got an opportunity to bid on a bunch of McDonalds restaurants. Looking over the plans, I see a lot of specifications for colours but nothing for particular products - and they don't specify which manufacturer has to be used ... only all the colours are Benjamin Moore.

Anyone out there done one of these before? Are there particular products that McDonalds specs for their repaints? Neither me nor the GC that I met with this morning could find anything about this....

TIA.

I had to say something.

I really thought the question applied to a general painting question. This is why I put it under general painting. Its good to have people to monitor the site so that only certain people (professionals)(Whatever professionals are as I've been painting for 50 years and haven't sold a painted picture yet but only paint homes and also apparently not posting a professional question by, I guess, me a non professional). Sounds like the Obama Administration. Thanks for the answers that help my painting needs and thanks for closing my tread as I didn't know after painting 50 years I couldn't ask something and learn more and I'm not in the professional painters category (without knowing me). What happened to freedom of everything. Hope someone get to read this and agrees with this freedom thing and does something. Ron

Hi hope to get some sound advice, we have imported some doors from China and they have been pre-primed. Our painters have applied a coat having initally sanded down and there are tramlines down the edges of the doors. The painter is telling me it is due to the process the door went through when being pre-primed (through rollers) that have left marks. He is not offering any advice in rectifying this. Is this a common problem? could the lines be down to the type of paint he has used. We want to end up with a smooth gloss finish but with this line issue evident he tells me the top coat will make it even more noticable. Any advice would be grateful.

Here are some of mine:

Website
Online lead generators (however, for some reason these have been declining)

I have a door that needs re-staining. It appears that whoever the first painter to do this door used regular polyurethane as the finish coat. This door sits in direct morning sunlight, so you can imagine what it has done. Apparently another painter or homeowner (I believe to be the latter) has come in and applied gel stain without sanding to the door in an attempt to revive the door. Of course it is peeling as well. This is a very detailed front door and it would be a shame to paint this door. Too much sanding would damage the doors beautiful woodwork. My question is what would you suggest as far as getting the surface far enough that it would take gel stain correctly and apply a spar urethane (which should have been done in the first place)? Would lacquer thinner and steel wool be too much for the wood? Any suggestions would be greatful.
