How Do You Spend Christmas Day?-fireplace-lge.jpg

How will you be spending Christmas this year?

Do you have any special family traditions?

On the road to the Portland area...hopefully, not stranded in the Columbia Gorge.

For a few years now, our tradition is to alternate going to our kids' houses, arriving after the craziness of Christmas morning with their kids.

Me and the other elves will be working the still as usual. Gotta get it bottled up for Christmas morning deliveries you know. Spreading that holiday cheer!

We alternate every other year with everyone at our house or our daughter's home. Our son will be down here first for a few days before Christmas just to hang out. Then we will all head north for a few days.

This coming week will be the yearly Vets Hospital and Vets Home gift visits. (Sure am glad that others have stepped up and basically taken it over from me the past few years.)

Stepfather has back surgery the 20th, which means they'll probably send him home the 24th, so the plan is to spend the days and nites with him for awhile since my mother has passed and he is alone. Why two of his adult children can't take the time to do it is something I've given up on trying to figure out. (The kicker is that one of them lives less than a mile away and can't even take him to the hospital the day of his surgery. Sad.) The wife and I take it all in stride though.

So, the two of us will take the time when we can for ourselves. Heck it is the season to give right?

I'll be a knotted mess tip toeing around everyone's sensibilities. The day after Christmas is the day I can relax with a drink and a movie.

My wife works a 12 hour shift on Christmas so we are going to celebrate it with the kids on Christmas eve day. On Christmas I'm taking them to my parents with my sister and brother. Day after Christmas I'm right back to work.

Normally, we stick around the house for the morning relaxing. Then head out to a friends place with a box of beer. They own close to a 1000lb of Great Dane, so you spend the day covered in slobber and having dogs mash their giant heads into you demanding pets. Play cards, board games, etc.

This year, after 20 some years Mom lives within a 5 minute drive instead of 6hrs. So, we'll be spending most of the day hanging out with her at the nursing home. It looks like they don't have many activities planned there over the holidays due to being shorter on staff and there's no way I'm letting her spend Christmas alone in her room.

Gonna be a quieter day, but that's fine.

Painting lower kitchen cabinets on Xmas eve and Xmas day. New house that insanely wealthy guy is giving his wife as a gift. I'll clear 5000.00 for 16 hours work. I'm good with that. Jesus is good with that. Shiva is good with that. Everyone is pretty much ok with that.

Well, I hope this doesn't bore you all to much but since the question has been ask I'll go ahead and chime in. When I wake up on Christmas day I'll get the coffee going and once I get some coffee down I'll start chopping onions, bell peppers and tearing apart the sliced ham. One of our Christmas traditions is that the old man (me) makes everyone egg omelets for breakfast, including my mother-in-law. My kids remind me every year by asking "Dad you are making omelets today aren't you?" I put on an act like I hate doing it, but I really enjoy it. When we are done eating we all gather in the family room and I will read the Christmas story out of the bible. Its found in the book of Luke chapter 1 & 2. When I am done reading we will watch the dogs open their presents (with some assistance from us) and play with them a little bit. Then we will exchange our gifts to one another. And since Christmas is on a Sunday this year we will go to church. After church The ladies (my wife, her mother and my daughter) will start cooking dinner. We usually have Christmas dinner at our house for my wifes side. When our guests have left we or I (sometimes we all go, sometimes its just me) will go see my mom and my side either at my uncles or my brothers house. My wife and I most likely will stay up late and just spend time with each other.

Spend time at home. And probably work on the website or other things. Got plans for 2017 that have to get done right.

Add eggnog into the mix and it's going to be a dandy day.

That was a nice Christmas story read. I can actually taste the omelet. Thank you!

Thank you CA. I do not claim to be a great cook, but my family likes my burgers cooked on the grill and my egg omelets. I know I can't ship you an omelet but , If you are ever in the Indianapolis area let me know and I'll whip you up one.

Alright then. I'll have to go get me some more duct tape. My last shipment took all I had. You should have seen it.
