I was gonna mention "thru", but I assumed that was intentional.

Interesting post. There does seem to be a changing of the guard...sort of a tacit agreement that a dummying down of the use of language is perfectly acceptable in today's technologically driven discourse.

Personally, I will always believe that when we communicate via the written word, our words and how we use them represent us, and that it will always be in our best interest to use proper grammar, spelling, the use of capitals, etc.

Maybe this is just a reflection of my advancing age and how I was raised and educated. I can see the benefit in watering down things to reduce typing time, and am not judging others who do so.

Totally agree about the dummying down part and also think this is often a generational thing. But in addition to that, using emailing and texting as much as I do in my business, I want to project a level of professionalism to my customers. Using shortcuts when communicating with them via those formats isn't the way to do that IMO.

My wife sends me text messages sometimes that are so garbled, I can't even begin to understand what she's trying to say. Then when I ask her, she says "U n o whart I ment!" She's actually a good speller when not using her phone. Sometimes she even tries to convey sentences purely by use of emojis which drives me up the wall.

Something's not right there, RH?

The "shorthand" and abbreviations used in texting and typing has a way of creeping into the brain and coming out in spoken communication. Not long ago I asked a young guy a question on the job site and he replied "I-D-K". It took me a moment to figure it out.

I know every generation has its differences, but the movie "Idiocracy" seems to pop into my mind more and more these days.

I think so. They may have most of us fooled into thinking they are nice but when they do come down on something, they do it twice as hard as we do.

Something about two "ly's" together just does not sound right. I was not very good in English class, so cannot put it into the proper verbiage. I was hoping our resident teacher could correct the problem(if in reality there is one).

Two adjectives together without a coma, without a noun or pronoun following.

Comma. Though.

Looking back, mayhaps the two adjectives was a poor choice.

I believe I just got caught up in the moment.

Now we're all gonna be grammar and spelling nits on here and nobodies gonna want to post anything.

I just posted because someone asked. Thought it might be an educational moment, that's all. If I tried to correct all of the grammar and spelling mistakes (yes, mine as well!) on this site I wouldn't have any time to slam SW and Behr. And we wouldn't want that now, would we?

Stalker? We have those on here? You mean the people who somehow get your 85 year old mothers phone number and call to try to contact you? Those stalkers?

Beyond what people post on here i don't understand why someone would give a rats a55! I don't get that crap.
