Crown Moldings
Do you prefer painting the crown molding white when the rest of the trim is white including the ceiling? I have been told by a customer to use a color that is a little darker the the walls to highlight the crown. I somewhat agree because it does look somewhat lost against a white ceiling. I would think a light color on the ceiling and keep all the trim white is better and a nice look.
If anyone has pics of colored crown please post.

I usually paint crown in either with the ceiling, or go with a trim colour while the ceiling is painted 1/2 strength of the walls:

Crown goes the trim color here, most ceilings are 1/4 main or a seperate color altogether. Been a long time since I painted a white ceiling.

I don't pick the colors. I leave that for the customer to decide....
But if my advise is asked, I like the crown the same as the trim package.

We actually have a customer thinking about painting her hallway crown high gloss black. I'm hoping she decides to do it just so we get some pictures of it.

I will say this much, an untinted white ceiling and cc40 cloud white crown looks horrible.

I'm with Schmidt, I do what asked. As we paperhangers say, "I don't pick em, I only stick 'em"
But if asked or in my own home, I'll say all like surfaces are done consistently.
Trim is trim
Vertical plaster surfaces = wall
Horizontal plaster surfaces facing earth = ceiling, sometimes "thrown" toward wall color
(sloped walls can be either, depending)
Now, I once had a customer who swore the crown had been painted with a darker shade than the rest of the trim. (Ya ! like I was going to tint a pint of paint JUST for the crown - RIGHT !) I actually had to re-paint one length of crown AND one door header just to prove we did NOT paint the crown another color. She finally began to understand about lighting and shading.

My thoughts exactly. Would paint it darker then wall color but tell my customer it's not recommended and she will pay again to paint it white if she hates it.

Whatever the customer wants, either way it will look good, but usually the trim color is safe.

I've done work at an interior decorators house before and let me tell you they are a pain in the azz. 1/4 to 1/2 strengh the main wall colour is good for a ceiling and we know that, they know that, everybody knows that. But she had me try to ceiling colour in 1/8, full strength, 1/4, 1/2 and then using a completely separate colour before finally deciding to go with ... drum roll ... 1/2.
I don't like working for interior designers. But they pay well. Especially with all those colour changes.

A number of years ago we were working with a particulary pain in the ass decorator. We had just completed the customers living room and were putting the room back together when she arrives.
She approved all colors prior to us starting, but throws a fit about the ceiling color in front of the customer. Says "Its all wrong!" "Needs more raw umber!" or something to that effect. Basically putting on a show for the HO....
So my father grabs his tints and some of the leftover paint and sets up to put up samples for her. While the decorator is talking to the customer (And bad mouthing us) he just "waves" the tint bottle over the paint without adding any! He then puts up the new "sample" for her inspection.
"Oh thats SO much better. Re-paint the entire ceiling with that!" And with that she storms off. That was 15 years ago. Every year or two we go back and do more work for that HO. Funny thing, she has never had the decorator back!

I prefer the moldings to be consistent with the rest of the trim.Actually like when the ceilings have some color too when you have a nice trim. Here's a pic of one of our latest jobs
