Anyone else use Home Advisor or a similarly related website?

Just wondering if they are a scam or if they really work before I bother....

Thank You Very Much!

Waste of time and money. Pay for an lead for a job you most likely won't get.

run, walk, crawl, whatever. It's rare to get a legit job you don't have to low ball from Home Adviser. Spend your efforts on a company facebook page and do updates to it every week or so and boost your posts. For as little effort it takes you will get better results. (not necessarily great results but better the Home assviser)

I've had nothing but problems with homeadvisor. When they first contacted me it sounded like an ok way to get leads, what they don't tell you is for every "lead" they give you they charge you like $50 on top of your $350 subscription, and your not promised the job.

I have asked to be placed on the no call list but they still call. I've told multiple people I am not interested, they have gone as far as calling me on their personal cell phone to get me to pick my phone up. Scandalous

Horrible service with worthless leads. They also don't tell you that they put you on a call list for everything painting and charge you for every lead if you take them or not until you catch it an d tell them to stop.

Yep. In fact, bobross' avatar picture is him after he realized what a mistake he'd made by signing up with them.

Same harassment as Angies list who I have repeatedly told I want nothing to do with. I still get at least a phone call a week from these, well, whatever you want to call them

I have signed up for buildzoom...it was a slow winter. You do not have to pay for leads, but you have to give them 2.5% for any job you get from them. So, if I ever do bid for a job, I will just add their cost into my price. So far only one lead, which was about an hour away (with the nasty Boston traffic). I will most likely pay attention to it until next winter.

Doing a job now we got through Angie's List. We aren't members but the HO is and we have a few reviews from past customers who also belonged. As long as our reviews are great, I'm fine with me being there. But if that ever changes...

I also have good reviews but could do without the phone calls and spam. I joined for free when they first started up and now am in the system and no matter what I tell them, they are always after my $$

I can point you in the right direction if you want to make $100-200 per hour on your jobs.

I would never pay for leads, but I found some value in Angie's list.
I don't do anything they tell me to do to "maximize" my profile (I don't push my customers to review me, or spend a lot of time posting pictures, or offer special discounts/coupons, or participate in their online storefront crap)

And, while they are sometimes annoying, I have gotten a few really good, repeat customers with sizeable projects. I decided to advertize with them, and I think it's worth it.

I had a lot of fun shutting down the sales rep tho (they change every 3 months or so) "Yeah, well, you see, we're in the high-end market, so no I won't be calling my clients to bother them. That's not something we do."

Needless to say, Home Advisor is worthless (as noted above) and several colleagues have told me the same story as that.
