Anyone experienced one of these before?

Is it an audit to find out what the best source of leads is for your company?

Do you do lead abatement work?

I have never heard of either? Are you talking about customer leads or lead paint?

Lead, as in the lead that is bad for your health. We were randomly selected for this lovely event. We have to turn in paperwork to the state about every project that we did last year making sure that we did not partake in any illegal activities with lead. We have no issues with doing it, but it just goes to show they are not messing around with these new laws. They are really cracking down on this lead thing. Dean, you might be a lucky fellow Michigander too!

Wow, unless your state has some specific rules, I would think the only thing that was mandatory was having customers sign the Renovate Right pamphlet.

They are just making sure we didn't do any lead abatement without being certified. We didn't, so no worries. Just more paperwork to turn over to the government!

Default New laws...

...simply adding some bite to the old ones:
www.epa.gov/opptintr/lead/pubs/sbcomplianceguide.pdf
It will wreak havoc in and also level the playing field of any pre-'78 built bids/jobs

Nope. Letter says we were "randomly" selected by the state. Funny part is we turned down an offer to bid on a home because of the lead issue. Wonder how many people will get caught that actually do break these laws...Not saying that it is not important, but I think that auditing businesses that have legal business practices might be just as important!

So it was the state, not the EPA? Was it more like a survey or making sure you were complying with State Rules/Laws?

The crappiest thing about it all is that if you were an unlicensed hack they would never of had all your contact info in the state files to audit you.
They should start a database and crack down on the ones that are operating illegaly because they are the ones that are bucking all the laws and will buck the new epa laws as well.

I hope we are wrong on this, but I too think all these new regs will only widen the price gap between lawful companies and unlawful ones, making our job even tougher.
