Hello paint talk. I know it's been a really long time since I posted last but I have a question that I am curious about. Honestly I haven't been keeping up in the whole lead thing and EPA rules they change so much and I am just way to consumed in other things to make time to follow up on all of the rules. So I am a lead certified safe firm I did the course a few years back and my certification doesn't expire until 2015 but my question is am I able to legally with out penalties or problems do encapsulation? I live in MA if that makes a differences.
I am not up to par on the remediation regs at all. But, I sell gallons of lead encapsulation paint to anyone with $45 and no rules telling me to only sell to licensed / certified contractors. In Mass.
I believe that you must possess moderate risk license to encapsulate. Maybe high risk to test post-encapsulation. Can't quite remember. Movable/impactables cannot be encapsulated within the confines of the law, as I understand it.
In MA you can encapsulate lead but you can not sand it, scrape it, or remove it in any way shape or form unless you are certified or licensed. Most of the major laws are still the same, some things have changed, look it up on the state website. I can pm you a lead inspector phone number you can call him and ask him questions. Don't be afraid to make a call he wont come track you down, this guy is really cool and like to help more than bust contractors.
That's great CD that it sounds like you have some good relationships with these inspectors ,I stay far away from these lead jobs on Capecod usually recommend some other guys for them because of the laws
