Default Leads for painting outside your geographic area or comfort zone

I am sure most painting contractors come across requests for quotes on projects that are either outside their service area or are not the types of jobs they want to do, ie a house painter gets a lead on painting a warehouse.

What do you do with these leads???

If anyone comes across leads for warehouse or factories anywhere in the US or Canada we pay a 5% finders fee.

Incidently I have a lead for repainting a church in Omaha that I would be happy to pass on no charge to anyone who wants to go after it.

How do you handle the State Licensing (where there is any) on work like that? I had someone contact me for a big commercial caulking job and I knew it had to be a company from my state, so I did not even try to reach out here.

For most states if you are an out of state corporation all you need to do is fill out a form and pay the $250 to $750 and you have state authority to do business there. If there was extensive licencing requirements that would take to long to comply with we would partner up with a local industrial painter and run the job with them. Many states have no licencing requirements for painters at all.

Down south I have never had to worry about paying of filling out any form. Even general contractors can work in bordering states if they are licensed in their home state.

And dont forget the mess of filing tax returns in different (mutliple) states.

I use to try an pass on leads. No good deed goes unpunished.
