not sure which forum this belongs on but, I have a potential client that has a dark brick fireplace sucking all the light out of their living room. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could lighten it (short of a sledge hammer and a mason)? I was thinking maybe super thinning some white latex paint and sponging it on? Maybe some whitewashing? It would be a fun thing to figure out. But it has to hold up to heating up from the fire.

You can use almost any paint to do it ,whats important is when you paint inside of a fireplace which needs a fireproof coating....I personally would tell them to do some tile work instead... You can acheive a bunch of differnt affects with paint and glaze...
