If you can't charge a grand for a residential repaint of a 12x14 bedroom - then do yourself a favor and get out. We're talking time to meet with customer - waiting on them hem & haw over color, going in there setting up equipment - taking down shades, taking off outlet covers, sanding down trim thoroughly, sanding down doors, ceiling and walls, and then caulking all cracks, spackle walls, fill miscellaneous nail holes then one coat on ceilings - two coats on trim, and 2 coats on walls - with minor sanding between coats - I don't care what anyone says - that's half a man-week out of your schedule, it will take 20 man-hours to do a thorough job - and you might as well bill for a full 3rd day - like I said, easy grand including materials.

Why the heck not. Surprisingly, this site finally put out a half decent quote. Having said that, a 12x14 room with windows, the ceiling 2 coats, baseboards, doors, thats no small job. Like plainpainter said, thats a couple days right there.
After materials which would probably be a couple hundred (depending on your $/gallon), your not really left with all that much. Lets say 250 for materials, gas to get there every day, phone, bla bla, $300 for 3 days work on one room. Thats $700 for you and your company. Which is really not a whole lot, its not bad, but its not what I set my sights on.

Paint Estimating Software
Is anyone aware of a good application for performing paint estimates? Specifically, I am looking for one that uses unit cost pricing, i.e. by the square foot or linear foot.
Thanks,
Chris

That paint estimator is S***y. I am doing a job in Gladwyne, PA. one of the most upscale neighborhoods in Pa. if not the most. Every house is worth millions!! How are you to use this estimator on jobs like this we will be painting 6 piece crown, 4 piece baseboard and so on... The paint estimator says $662.10. HA THATS A JOKE. I'm getting $2,000.00 for the master bedroom trim. I never take the time to fool w/ those things but this time I couldn't resist. NEVER TELL HOMEOWNERS ABOUT THOSE SITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gladwyne rocks. I have done work for some people I'm sure that would not appreciate the name drop but you are right, the area is for the truly elite. I'd like to get in contact with you. I have had requests for painting and have had no one qualified I could refer. Maybe we could trade some leads.
Have you ever done work for Gary Bar---- (the car guy)? When he leaves you a message he gives a fake name and a separate cell phone he uses exclusively for contractors. Rich people are a quirky bunch.

If it didnt fall without the bounds of professional propriety, I would start a thread exploring this topic. The stories we all could tell.
Truer words may never be spoken.

Green Hills' $124,279 per capita income is significantly higher than Pennsylvania's more traditional enclaves of wealth -- No. 2 is Fox Chapel ($80,610), No. 3 is Sewickley Heights ($79,541),

Hey Philly, how many man hours do they figure for that job? Might get a going rate. Sounds a little high to me, at least for my little corner in IN. Wonder if there is any prep, and how many panes per window? Am I allowed to paint the window shut? Windows, door, and baseboard get one coat? Empty room, or do you move furniture for the elderly? Inquiring minds need to know. Good thread Timhag. Haven't tried the estimator yet.
Happy painting, Paul.

Gladwyne is a suburban community in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,050 at the 2000 census. As Gladwyne is neither an incorporated area nor a census-designated place, all data is for the ZIP code 19035, with which the community is coterminous. It is one of the wealthiest places in the country,[ citation needed] and is situated in the Pennsylvania Main Line in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania. Its ZIP code has the 14th highest per-capita income in the country with a population of 1,000 or more.[ citation needed] It is home to the Philadelphia Country Club and the Gladwyne Civic Club. Within Gladwyne, there are four churches, a synagogue, a library, several schools, the Gladwyne fire company, playgrounds, parks, businesses, and retail shops.
Green Hills is a borough in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 18 at the 2000 census, making it the third-least-populous borough in the state. Only S.N.P.J. and Centralia are smaller. Partly due to its small size, Green Hills ranks as the 13th highest-income place in the United States.
Per capita income does not tell the story. The wealth there tells the story. Its a lot of blue blood Main Line money. The people in Gladwyne may report X amount of income but TRUST ME, this where the sports stars, the $1,000,000+ per year lawyers, and the elitist of the elite live. Its similar to Fox Chapel. Isn't that where the Heinze family lives?

Guess I'm wrong on that one PressurePro. Yes, Fox Chapel is were the Heinz family is from. Also, my children are in the Fox Chapel school district. My oldest daughter went to school with Bill Cowher's daughter. We do some work in that area along with the Nevillewood and Sewickley areas.

I could do that job in 2 days. About $150 in materials. So I think $1026 is higher then most people would be willing to pay. If you can get that much or more, then good for you.

I don't see why a customer having access to this estimator would be bad for your business. They would not be getting a signed quote nor a contractor to fill the order to throw in your face. I agree too that one's impression of the condition of the interior is subject to effect the outcome.
