Painter's Image, Professional & Mature???
While we all bemoan the perception of painters by other trades and the general public, I'd like to make a few comments about posting/replying maturely.
This forum is open for public viewing and if you go to the top of the page you'll read; "Professional Painting Contractors Forum". Over the months I've read some pretty spiteful, if not down right nasty replies on this forum. I really dont question the majority of the members professionalism here though some of the maturity levels give me pause.
My suggestion: If you dont like one another for whatever reason, either dont reply or have some PM parties amongst yourselves. If the image you wish to portray is in direct relation to your lack of maturity, why would you want your identity or business name associated with it?
There's a difference between joking around and what is clearly spiteful. Some of you know each other personally; meaning having physically met, yet most here know each other only as names on the forum. I dont consider myself to be the role model for maturity, but I would never post some of the crap replies I've read here.
Anyway, thats my "rant".

Good post. I am guilty of defending my position and in doing so have acted pretty immature (even resorted to some name calling). This forum should be used for professionals to post advice, experiences, etc... Even when we disagree with each other, there is a right way and wrong way to handle that debate. I am not saying I always handle these debates the right way.
"My suggestion: If you dont like one another for whatever reason, either dont reply or have some PM parties amongst yourselves. If the image you wish to portray is in direct relation to your lack of maturity, why would you want your identity or business name associated with it?"
I like your above suggestion and will improve my professionalism in future posts. One thing I am not sure how to handle is, when one makes assumptions and posts stuff about my business or business model that simply are not true. I feel I need to correct or it is left hanging out there and then that false assumption(s) might lead others to think of as true statements. Any suggestions on how to handle that? Maybe I should just let it go. Sometimes, I feel I need to defend my position (and this is where I tend to get too aggressive and act un-professional).
Your points are well taken and needed to be said.
On a last note, assumptions should not be made because we do not know each others situations or the details of how we run our business.

Common sense is priceless, you have that. Some guys on here don't, and would rather make personal comments when they don't even know the other guy. This is too bad, and all it does is run people off. Thanks for the post.

I think we need to define "professional painter".
I also find it amusing that everyone that starts a thread like this can never say who they are talking about. So we have no clue of whom or what your talking about. Rather just speaking in general terms. If your going to throw mud around at least aim correctly and accurate
Not saying you are wrong. Just would like some clarification.

People are going to post how they feel and say whatever they want until someone either tells them they can't or edits it.
I am a moderator on an other message board, different topic but pretty much the same format. The owner was tired of all the pig piles and flame wars etc. so he added more mods....my site has triple the active members than this one and over a dozen mods. No B.S. is tolerated...mods can and do edit and/or delete just posts or whole threads that they consider not cool....not just lock...that way good threads can stay alive. It is just my opinion but I think more moderators are needed on this board, and they need not to be afraid to swing the ax swiftly.

I agree with Ewing that there is no generally accepted definition of "Professional Painting Contractor", and that is more a symptom of the industry than it is this forum. In fact, alot of what goes on on this forum is guys arguing about things that are discussed here that go against their beliefs about what a professional painting contractor really is. I think the mods are fine, we just might need more professional painting contractors to show up.

Since it is my nature, here is my reply!
Actually have posted things I regret, but we are all adults. I like being treated as one.
If I don't like a vegetable, I don't eat it. If I don't like a tv show I don't watch it. If I don't like a post I can choose to ignore it.
Not bustin balls, just my opinion.
And I am kidding with the picture!!!!

Mods are paid the same as members. Speaking of which, I suggested this awhile ago, if Nathan charged even $1/month for members to access this forum, painttalk would lose the majority of its nonsense. Then, it might attract the serious (but fun loving) professional painting contractors.
