Are you using tool boxes, and what kind? I've tried the Bosh L-Boxes, DeWalt TStack and Festool Systainers. Right now for the price, I'm going with the TStacks for my hand tools, and Systainers for the Festool sanders etc. Just wondering how you guys stay organized and if anyone has found the "holy grail" of truck/tool organization.
LOL. Right now I've got a mixture of fiver's and boxes. But I've got a szit-load of stuff on the van to keep five guys going. I think the ability to stack my tools will free up some space.
Every painter has individual tool box, crew boxes are Rubbermaid type stackable containers.
Tough to have that Festool system with more than couple of crews and the owner not painting. Overkill for sure.
I finally put a bucket together...just Flys around and I pick it up every few days....since my truck isn't really a work truck....only on the road....when I'm home I don't work but I may suit up on monday to show these guys my dry fall skills!!
Whatever is empty at the time we need stuff. I keep all the stuff in storage totes and have a couple empty ones so if we need stuff it all goes into 1 tote or 2 and our Festools.
I've been pretty much using the exact same thing for my personal brush/tool bag Dean. But I'm trying to get all the other items on the van into boxes. Still playing around with what works, but I'm getting there.
I'm stuck on totes for van storage. They work well and are inexpensive enough to change out every now and then when they get gnarly or the handles break. I'm ready for some new ones soon.

I use simple storage totes like Josh. Get the cartwheel Target app and select it to send notifications when storage items are on sale. Last time I went to target for storage totes I replaced about 20 of them for $43.
For the amount of tools and the variety of tools a typical painter needs, I always though that what Schmidt or MSJ have would be beneficial, but with multiple trays in each one.
Then reality struck, NO ONE ever puts tools back in the same place they got them.
Keeping tools organized is one of the toughest jobs on a job site
Dairy crates, with our without dividers, for medium power tools: routers, pinners, etc. We also fill them with recycled milk cartons and use them for hardware.
Attached-lid totes for drops, masking, sundries, and larger power tools ( f/c saws, siding nailers, etc).
Velo-type totes for hand tools. We used rigger's bags for years, but switched to something with a closed top.
Reall Useful Boxes for smaller stuff or paperwork. They come in a wide range of sizes.
I still have some of the wood toolboxes that I built years ago. They still work just fine...in the shop. They are beasts and I'm not lugging them in and out of jobs any more.
