I am getting the point Wolfgang. I struggle with it. I am not nearly as involved as I could/should be with the technical discussions as a result.
It's a weird limbo for me. I got a lot invested now, and I feel like I know some of the people so I hang around any way.
I sure wish we would at least have a culture of
expecting newbies to post their brief bio/explanation of their work environment, even if it is not a rule.
There will always be someone that answers the ludicrous questions posted by people who haven't established if they are full time painters, and is likely aren't based on their questions. Then they have a green light, and it's a teaching fest from that point on.
Usually it's new members who are full time painters and are eager to contribute, when they see a question they know the answer to. That was my experience any way.
In those situations, I honestly don't want anyone to feel bad, but some of the questions are clear indicators of no experience. Which would be fine if it is a greenhorn painter working full time for an established painter.
But when it is someone with no experience competing with established painters, I can't see spending my time teaching them/giving them advice on every banal question and bizarre direction they take and want info on.

It's the first time in my life I have ever not been as helpful as I possibly could. That is my nature. Last year I stopped 3 times and knocked on the doors of strangers when I saw a car parked with their lights on, so I could save them the hassle of having a dead battery.
But I hear ya Wolfgang. Your lone howl will not go without at least one haunting reply.
