You are either an extremely good straight man (pun intended) to Wolfs humor or you did not catch his very subtle joke!

See, what we have here is the new PT forum. One year ago we would be insulting, and talking down one another, now look at us. We have changed. Even painters can learn new tricks.

I caught it but knew there was no way to come out of that one clean, so I took a different route.

You always quote me as I am editing.

I think we all did.

My first day painting ever I was handed a brush and told to "cut tops".

I had to ask what he meant by "cut".

After I had "cut" my first room, I got in shyt for "gunning" all the T-bar. I didn't know what that meant either.

Ahhh the good ol days

This is a profesisonal painters forum - Not a professional painting company "owners" forum. I had a hard time understanding that a year ago. We all have our own interpretation of what a professional is and it is up to the vocal pro's here to help guide those with non DIY questions, that is if they feel compelled to answer. We all have a choice on answering questions we may feel is amatuer or just pass over to another thread or another site. There are several other sites out there but none that have equal content or experience as this one. I must admit I do have a serious problem with helping a "business owner" with basic questions but it is my option not to offer my advice.

Not every professional has all the answers and some may be looking to be professional some day. Hopefully they are not doing it at a homeowners expense.

lol sean, backwhen i was still in construction and learning to paint I proudly painted the perfect edge on the door frame to a very nice garage door. Little did I know that the soffit and fascia guy was gonna come along and cover my line with tin anyway.

We used to get the paint on the walls then install the ceiling, back when cutting it in seemed so intimidating.

Funny to look back on that stuff. It is good to remember those things for when we have some other knucklehead that do the same silly stuff we did.

I am getting the point Wolfgang. I struggle with it. I am not nearly as involved as I could/should be with the technical discussions as a result.

It's a weird limbo for me. I got a lot invested now, and I feel like I know some of the people so I hang around any way.

I sure wish we would at least have a culture of expecting newbies to post their brief bio/explanation of their work environment, even if it is not a rule.

There will always be someone that answers the ludicrous questions posted by people who haven't established if they are full time painters, and is likely aren't based on their questions. Then they have a green light, and it's a teaching fest from that point on.

Usually it's new members who are full time painters and are eager to contribute, when they see a question they know the answer to. That was my experience any way.

In those situations, I honestly don't want anyone to feel bad, but some of the questions are clear indicators of no experience. Which would be fine if it is a greenhorn painter working full time for an established painter.

But when it is someone with no experience competing with established painters, I can't see spending my time teaching them/giving them advice on every banal question and bizarre direction they take and want info on.

--------------

It's the first time in my life I have ever not been as helpful as I possibly could. That is my nature. Last year I stopped 3 times and knocked on the doors of strangers when I saw a car parked with their lights on, so I could save them the hassle of having a dead battery.

But I hear ya Wolfgang. Your lone howl will not go without at least one haunting reply.
