Default New to Paint Talk & Relocating to Berkeley CA

Hey guys and gals,

I'm a new member of Paint Talk as of today. I've been lurking for several months absorbing tidbits and hints. I apprecciate a venue where I can check in with others about professionalism, profitability and having a more satisfying painting career.

About me- I've been painting in the Northeast on and off for roughly the past ten years, with a short stint in CA. I do mostly residential repaints with some additions and remodels. I'm moving back to Berkeley CA (on account of the wifes family) this coming week and am naturally looking at this as an opportunity to recharge and reinvent my company. To put it simply, I want to make more money and do less work.

I'm no slacker. I like being industrious and productive. Motivation is not an obsticle. Painting is gratifying to me, customers like and trust me and I do a great job (often slitting my own throat in the process). So, I'm working to become more business savy, find my niche, charge more, shift my role "out of the bucket", manage my projects better and release myself of my inner perfectionist (I was reading a post on this topic earlier)

I'm looking forward to getting help from you folks and hopefully I'll be able to add something now and again.

-Colin

We promise not to yell if you promise not to ask "how much"!

Stickies are the "best of" threads on PT. They remain at the top in any subforum.

Look here

Brian is a member who has developed systems and training for painters wanting to work "out of the bucket".

Look here
