Default Label Maker

I picked up this the other day. I'm going to make my own labels for the paint cans with our info on it. I will add in the color mix and name as needed.

I thought about doing that, then I read on a thread here a year or two ago that if your information is on any paint cans that are disposed of improperly, it is you they are coming after, not the customer. So I decided against it.

We have always talked about marking our the cans. Just never got around to it. I believe its a great way of getting return costumers.

Have you ever figured out the cost per sticker on that Epson? Looks like a handy unit.

I have not. It is one of those things I bought and had grand ideas for using and have yet again failed to implement. Some day.

I have a Brother P Touch (or some such). I'm an inveterate label-maker, but I haven't even used up the ribbon that came with it. I'm assuming that cost per label is below negligible. Maybe $0.01 or less? I really have never considered it on a cost-per-label basis.

That's a really nice idea. The paint store does it for us already. Every can/pail has at least 2

Our BM stores say it's a pain in the arse for them to change. No it isn't, your just lazy so now I will make my own labels and cover yours.

The reason I ask the cost per label is we had sticker made up with our company name, logo, and contact info. They are roughly 2" by 3". They ran us 15 cents per sticker. We could modify them so the workers on site could fill in the job name, colour location, date etc. on site with a pen. This wouldn't look as nice as a fully printed one but I wouldn't need a printer on every site.

Have you ever received a call from one of your labels left on site?

The paint store applies stickers to the cans with your company name and your contact info for you?

They must really like you at that paint store.

I think the point of adding the stickers is to leave your name on site, hoping to get future work. Printing your own label you could also add where the colour was used in the house making easier for touch ups.

Name: label.jpg

Size: 63.2 KBmy old post from last year:

In my area of Florida the average home is sold every 6 years
90% of our work in total repaints, full interior, exterior or both
so with the home changing hands YES we leave quarts cans with our label

we use a dymo LabelWriter 400 same our local paint store uses
it's great and uses no ink

as far as being worried about HO "dumping" a few quarts not a problem for us

The advantage is great for us, new HO find our cans with our info and call us

not one time in 10 years have i had a call about dumped paint , NOT ONE TIME but i got plenty of call from HO finding my info on touch up paint

i think your missing out on a good way for HO to remember you & futures HO from calling you if you don't

seriously just look the the label in photo and then look at one with no info ...
free marketing for me, keeps my name out there

Interestingly enough, my PPG store does put my name on the label. No contact info, though.

Back when dulux was gliddens they used to put the name on the labels, but they haven't done that in a long time. I don't think it helped with advertising since the name was small and buried in with the colour name, store address, tint formula etc. You need a sticker like Repaint Florida to get your name out there.

I picked up sticker size 2 7/8"x4", slightly larger than I wanted but will cover other label easy. Ours is simple like this one except we will most likely write in the formula's.

Yes, it happened to me about 7-10 years ago. Used to put on labels with my name/number on all cans. Apparently a homeowner illegally disposed of a bunch of cans. With my name all over them. Got a call from Waste Management, then a letter from the EPA. Had to spend HOURS trying to convince some guy in a office that I personally did not dispose of the cans. I won't put my name on them ever again.

all my labels have a job address ... the end user
plus if HO trash it they usally put it in household garbage showing who did it

But i feel the pain my shop is in a industrial area with over 700 warehouse in 1 square mile and every time someone dumps paint they blame me,

they can't do anything but they still call me

just caught someone last night dumping old tires & car batteries in my dumpster

last year i had another painter drop off 75 gal of old paint right in front of my shop door, guess he through i would get rid of it

this was recorded on my security cameras showing his company name, truck, tag & a high def picture of him doing this

nothing legally i could do, police wrote a report but didn't take a copy of video
basically i was left on my own

But me and the painter did have a "little face to face" talk

Great idea!

Going to add this to the 2017 list of things to do/add.

We usually leave a touch-up kit and have the stores save all the paint info by the house address, in the event the customer has to look it up in the future. But I like the idea of the label and sure makes you look professional.
