I don't know diddly poo about differentiating among wood types via photos. I just wanted to say that this is a very interesting and educational thread for me personally.

I have ash flooring in my house and it has a grain pattern similar to hickory. A lot of hickory cabinet boxes are actually pecan because they are so similar. That's what is in my house in AZ. is and you can't tell the difference. I only because my cabinet maker told me.
