Default Does History Repeat Itself?

"Don't blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions. Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the 'new, wonderful, good society', which shall now be Rome's."

Marcus Tullius Cicero 106BC-043BC

...........maybe it does.

Of course it does,,, If you have been watching washington the last month, you know it does.

You could replace Ceasar with Obama, and Rome with America in the quote above, and change the date at the end to today's date.

When people of any nation begin to trade away freedoms and markets for government handouts,, it always ends the same.

All major civilations from the past have dissapeared, todays major civilations will also dissapear,,, for the same reasons,,,

nothing ever changes.

Not sure why I typed all this,, it will probbly never see the light of day.

Peace

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
— Marcus Tullius Cicero

If this somehow came up as a national discussion I'm sure a plethora of experts would say there is no comparison here.

This is my favorite Cicero quote
No matter how many hundreds or thousands of years you go back or forward, there will always be the haves and the have-nots.. the contributors and the takers. The not's always have and always will find a hundred reasons why they don't have, whether it be born to the wrong bloodline or complaining about big corporations or being kept down by the man. I have come to the conclusion God made both types and we need both types.

The civilizations of Rome and Ancient Greece may have fell, but the countries didn't disappear. They evolved and are still here. The US will evolve as well.

The US will evolve like all others in the past whose influence was global.

Those countries mentioned were empires at one time, some would say the USA is as close to an empire as one can get today.

We will DEvolve back to a time when our economic and military influence is not so global. It will be a rough time if it happens suddenly.

Interesting little page on Cicero in Wikipedia. Evidentally he was pretty good at making quotes/observations but tended to shift his views depending on the winds of the political climate of the times. Nice to know he was "human", LOL.
