Default Earth hour

just saw this on another forum.

If you wish to join, that's great.

I'm turning every light on, and might even let the truck run for that hour.

To each their own.

I don't know who here was alive or cognizant during the Great NE Black Out of 65. For no other reason, it's really cool seeing no lights in a huge metropolis. That last huge black out we had in 2003 was also eerily spectacular.

great time to go out look at the stars also - no light pollution.

BTW, this ain't a political or money or oil thing. I look on it as Sage mentioned, taking a break and chilling with the family with no electronic distractions. But then again, I always like it when the power goes out for an hour or two. Like camping-out at home.

During one of the hurricanes of the 80's (Bob?) our power was out so long we had to eat the contents of the refridge. The WW and I had the camp stove out and dined on hot dogs and champagne. Real romance

Reminds me of a time when the power went out here on New years eve for several ours.
We just lit candles and played board games. It was so fun, we didn't even turn the lights on when the power came back.

I know what your saying arch, I just do not subscribe to GLOBAL WARMING, I do buy into CLIMATE CHANGE.

That being said it would be interested to see darkness for a change of pace.

That and my father in law is a big shot at an electric COOP and he gets bitter whenever I say "this room is too bright, let's kill the lights..."

"Global Warming" is a misnomer. Climate Change or Shift is more accurate.

And I believe what we do can effect it. I know the earth has gone through cycles before, but if you think about how many humans there are on the planet, and how may buildings we heat and/or cool and how many gazillion gallons of fuel we burn each day, it's easy to believe we do have SOME effect.

SOME is key word..... to the extent burning a candle will raise the temp in my home.

People can drive electric cars, wash their clothes in rain run off from their roofs, grow their gardens on their roofs, recycle sugar water cans, and rub their hands together in the winter instead of wearing leather gloves, but when our Mother (and no she is not your mother) earth decides enough is a enough we be hurled into the sun and turned to ashes.

As always, no offense meant arch my man.

No offence taken. we B only expressing opinions. And there is a lot of what you say that I agree with.

The problem is with the extremists.

Anyway, i'm going lights out - except for refrig, phone, and other non-endangering conveniences - however my laptop is batteried

c u in an hour

Nah, I was blown out of that division when I chose Duke and Xavier.

But we did 95% of the earth hour. Everything off but refrig and telephone.

I went out on the stoop with a Beam, a Corona, and LapDog (my lappy). And then one of my NGPP buddies called on my cell - there went the hour.

Yah, i kinda cheated - with batteries one can still be conected - my verizon FiOS has a battery back-up.

I gotta say, it was nice and relaxing - what better way to spend an hour enjoying a cigar, a couple of shots, and a phone conversation ?
