Default journey's end

now being rather a private person in these matters, as taught me by my parents, and being more pragmatic and realistic than emotional at these times, I feel uneasy about posting this. But as my mother has been mentioned a bit by me, I thought it would be appropriate to let everyone know that she finished her life journey today at age 92.

I do not know the circumstance of her passing, except that one of the house keepers at "The Village" found her around noon, half in bed, half out of bed. It was too late to attempt resuscitation.

My brother and I last Christmas both knew she would not last the year. Not that she was sickly, ANYthing but that, but just running down. She called on Saturday wishing me a happy birthday, full of energy and positive thoughts. Her hearing seemed to be sharper. I think it was her way of saying goodbye - her sister had a similar burst of energy before she slipped away due to dementia. Mum did not want to be a sickly burden, and she was damned if she had to spend her last months under care. She died as she lived, on HER terms. Independent, with some fight. She had been complaining of a "fever" lately, and I knew her day was coming.

Now remember, my brother and I snatched her from death's door five years ago, so the last five years have really been a second lease.

A good, long, dynamic, full, rich life she had. There is no need for maudlin expressions or even deep sorrow, but perhaps if you would like, help celebrate her complex life by having a Jim Beam and water in her name, Priscilla Alden Crocker Archibald. She would do the same for you.

Anyway, my brother and I may be busy taking care of her affairs in the near future - which means cleaning up her "collections". Don't be surprised if I disappear for short intervals of time in the near future. .

rest easy, Mum. You deserve it after us three boys.

92 is a great feat. I am sure she had a full long journey..

Still, I am sorry for your loss, and my thoughts are with you.

I gotta be honest though, I thought you were close to 90 yourself. I guess I'm off by a few years.

I am sorry to hear this Bill. It makes me cringe even more on my last hoarder comment. I hope she meets all her loved ones in the clearing beyond the end of the path.

So very sorry to hear about this Bill. Lost my "Mom", (step-mother), last year. In a way, it leaves a feeling of emptiness in your life, but the memories will fill a void that one never knew they had. Strong, determined women of that type are somewhat of a rarity these days. My thoughts and prayers to your family.
