Always wondered how true it was, but often heard he was a bit of a jerk and a headhunter. I think that was part and parcel of a lot of pitchers back in the day. Same with Drysdale. Intimidation was a big part of their success though so I suspect they encouraged the talk.

I just found out that Mac Davis died the same day as Helen Reddy. If you don't remember Mac Davis, he was a singer, song writer and variety show host back in the tacky 70's when it was standard practice to emphasize your junk live on prime time television.

Only 65. Didn't know he had cancer.

(Don't I feel bad now for picking on 1984 in the Steve Winwood thread.)

In 2015 my 15 year old daughter was trying to convince me to take her to Midtown Music Festival in Atlanta. She wanted to see Alice in Chains. I said "We'll see". She kept working on me as they added artists. Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Billy Idol, etc. "We'll see", I would say. Then one day she comes to me and said, " Van Halen is the headliner for Saturday night. I said, "When is it again?". We saw a lot of great bands that weekend, with a lot of great guitarist, Eddie Van Halen was in another league all by himself.

I would have said "you had me at Alice in Chains" Although maybe not after Layne Staley went down which was well before 2015 (drugs and stuff as is all too normal).

Johnny Nash, the singer of "I Can See Clearly Now" fame, died today at 80.

Joe Morgan died today at age 77. Part of that great Cincinnati Reds team, he was a 10 time all star and won numerous Gold Gloves. I'll never forget how he flapped that elbow at the plate in anticipation of the next pitch.

We have lost a bunch of great baseball players this year, I'm really starting to feel old now.

He long had a disdain for fellow Hall Of Famer, Ryne Sandberg. Jealousy, think, and it tainted his legacy- at least in this Cub fan's eyes. Their stats were very close though Sandberg played 6 fewer seasons.
