Huh, I guess I kinda figured talk radio was a diminishing field. The only radio host I listen to (and I don't even know his radio show, I watch his YouTube videos, which are just voice recordings with slides) is Adam Buckley. His YT vids are good.

Otherwise, I listen to music. I hate the talk radio interrupting my classic rock station in the morning. I could listen to music for months and never hear the sound of a human that's not singing and I wouldn't miss a thing.
I couldn't agree more. Heck, I long for the days of FM radio stations playing entire album sides with no interruption. And when there was interruption, often the DJ was knowledgeable about the band, provided interesting input, and then went out of his/her way to play songs from a famous band that were not hits.

All the radio edits of old songs bum me out, too. You can't hear any songs over 3:00 minutes long; they're either not played or have massive chunks of them cut out. Sucks to be Pink Floyd.

Sounds like you need the Siriusxm deep tracks station or classic vinyl.

Seems like all the FM classic rock stations by me are all playing 80's stuff. Some of its good but the majority is junk.

Where I'm located, the classic rock stations all would leave one to believe that the same twenty-five or so bands they play every single day each had only two famous songs. Bands with well over twenty albums to their credit. There is nothing more stale than hearing the same hits by the same bands over and over.

It's the same around here. Sometimes, I'll even hear the same song at just about the same time day after day!

This is what has driven me to Pandora at home and SiriusXM on the road.

I'm sorry to hear that this redundancy is nation-wide. The fact that you've confirmed what I've always suspected just makes me, well, long for the early seventies FM format. At any rate, I guess while at work in unoccupied homes I'll just keep on hearing the same Peter Gabriel, Rolling Stones, Journey, Rush, Bon Jovi, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, Guns and Roses and Led Zeppelin songs in the same order every day at about the same time. Ugh.

Pretty sad what has happened to FM all the same songs \bands day after day one can dam near set a watch to what song is gonna play.. Sucks! A lot of great tunes are being ignored! That's what happens when all the radio broadcasting is done by very few large outlets.
Pandora, some internet stations and the local community collage station are all I can take. At work some of the guys still want to hear (so sick of the term) Classic Rock stations and or thrash so I do have to tolerate it sometimes..

I love Pandora. I've discovered artists that I really like, but they are relatively unknown. Seems the music business is all about marketing, packaging and videos these days. If he'd tried to make his way in the music biz these days, I suspect that Robert Zimmerman would be forever unknown.

Pandora is great for suggesting bands in our preferred genre/genres of which we may be unaware.

Exactly. And then I can go to itunes and buy their music and support those who make good music.

It's not classic rock it's dinosaur rock. Songs you hated then and hate even more now.

A lengthy read about the biggest player in the "format" game:

I'm going on 10 years with a Sirius radio in my van. It's the portable unit that sends an FM signal to my radio. I've got the app on my phone too. Whenever I have to ride with someone else and listen to local radio I get an anxiety attack.....

These days I just listen to my iTunes. I've always said I preferred owning music to streaming services, even though it gets a bit pricey to buy. Physical CD's barely exist anymore, so I buy on iTunes and burn my own, or just back up to an external HD. Listening to iTunes means it still repeats sometimes, like the radio, but I've got several days worth of music if I listened 24 hours a day, so it still stays pretty fresh.

I can only listen to two local music stations. One is indepedant, but still often plays the same sets over and over. The other is a public station out of UMass Boston, WUMB. I am not old enough to really remember real good radio stations. The only really good one I can remember in Boston, WBCN, was starting to really decline when I was a teenager. WUMB plays whatever it wants, but mostly bluegrass, folk, alt country, country (the real stuff)....ect. If I listen to talk radio it is always public radio. I cannot stand the idiots on talk radio, hate shock jocks, and although I enjoy sports, I cannot understand how anyone can talk about or listen to someone talk about sports all day long. I cannot even watch pregame shows. I find them mind numbing.
