Hell no! I love Seinfeld! That first season though was pretty, pretty bad- if you see what I did there. They got off to a bad start and word of mouth probably saved them. Jerry couldn't act, George was doing a whole Woody Allen NYC anxiety thing and even Kramer sucked. No Elaine either. Thankfully, they turned it around.

Pertaining to the commedy's listed in the thread, you either love em' or hate em'. They all seem to appeal to the same audience. Scrubs is another that could, for most, be lumped into the bunch. I never cared for GOT, just not my thing.

Shakespeare & Hathaway on Masterpiece is the only Brit crime drama I've ever watched, and I enjoy that. Other good Brit TV includes the original The Office, Keeping Up Appearances and of course Monty Python's Flying circus. Monty Python, more than anything else, is pretty polarizing...you either love it or you hate it.

I remember hearing that Monty Python wasn't that well liked in the UK. Just another show that some liked, most didn't. It didn't take off until a PBS station in Texas picked it up and it got passed around to other PBS stations about the US. Kids were getting stoned and watching it with their friends. It developed a cult-like following. The rest is history. Makes you wonder how those careers would have turned out if not for the 2nd life given by a Texas PBS station.

The Pythons were tired of doing it after season two. John Cleese stepped out of the group before season 3. I liked from the first time I saw it. Nobody had done what they were doing so a lot of people were confused. The BBC just let them do what they wanted. Never happen today.

Earlier in my painting youth I had the distinct pleasure of having met and worked for comedy oracle Caroline Hirsch of Caroline’s on Broadway. Ms. Hirsch has often been dubbed the “Comedy Queen of Broadway”, giving rise to emerging talent such as Paul Reubens & Jerry Seinfeld mentioned in this thread. Nice woman..

I think Cleese step out before the fourth (and last) season. But the movies were still to come...some pretty good stuff there, too!

The Pythons didn't like the censorship the BBC lorded over them. Although more liberal than US standards, they still felt it interfered with their art.

But, had they not fallen into that cult-like following in the US, they as a group would most likely not have enjoyed anywhere near the success they wound up having.

If you're a Cleese fan Fawlty Towers is a hilarious show. It started in 75 and ended in 79.

I absolutely loved that show when I was younger. Couple of years ago my wife and I tried to watch the series again. Made it through a couple of episodes, then completely lost interest. Just didn't seem to hold up over time. Couldn't believe it because I liked it so much decades ago.
