Default You're gonna love this...

Had coffee with another old timer friend of mine who has his own paint company yesterday morning.

In his 20+ years of having his own company he just had his first workman's comp claim by an employee. Seems his guys were doing an exterior and one of them had to pee. Went to the work van and grabbed an "empty" 1gal MEK can to use. Put the head of his unit directly onto the can opening, (controlling overspray I guess) and did his business.

Well, the wet MEK that was on the opening transferred to his unit, and the next day was afflicted by the famous MEK burn. It got worse. Guess the head of his unit swelled up and was blistered so bad he had to go to the ER. Off of work 2 weeks while he heals. Neither the ins co or my friend had ever seen anything like this or had to file a claim for anything like this.

Never laughed so hard in a long time. Just when I finished laughing, he told me that they now refer to the guy as "Donut D***" because of how the swelling was described in the medical report. Damn near choked to death on my coffee.

Be careful out there guys....

I do not know whether to laugh or cry at the this one. That this falls on his WC is ridiculous.

Damn, that would be a terrible decision right there. Never live that down.

You guys don't get it - WC isn't for the worker - it's to protect the boss and homeowners. WC is the one government backed thing that forces a worker to give up his or her rights to sue. Had this banana head not had WC - he could have gotten all the medical care in the world and then some crazy lawyer to sue the owner's gonads off. I can see it now 'Sir - you didn't post any signs anywhere warning about the danger of exposing genitalia to MEK splash back, did you' owner - 'Well, no - but why would a guy do that?' lawyer - 'perhaps something to do with not complying with OSHA standards and not having a port-a-potty on premises so my client would have had a reasonable alternative to what he thought was acceptable at the time.'

Worker's Comp is to protect us owners and homeowners from lawsuits from dummy workers. No workers comp - then they are free to sue off the ends of the earth.

Damn, that it is funny as all get out. The old timer should be glad that it was not worse than it was. The poor sap is probably going to be rubbing ointment on his member for a good two weeks. He will never live this down.

This kind of reminds me of a time when I was kid and noticed we had yellow jackets under the deck. So I grab the can of gas and go under after them and get stung and chased out of there. Needless to say in the process of running out of there I spill gas on my . It burned for what seemed like a day.

I can hear the ads now, "if your er***ion last for four hours please contact your nearest painting contractor and ask for a cupful of MEK"

That would be a interesting item on the Safy rules.
1. No using bucket as a ladder.
2. Always use a fitted respirator when spraying
3. No putting penis in a can of solvent (empty or full).
4. No horse play is allowed 5.
6.

Many years ago when we were doing large industrial painting projects. We had a guy who told us he thought he picked up ,shall we say "Bugs", in his genital area.

Well we knew he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed so we told him to put some MEK on a rag and go into the porta john and give em a rub down. Not thinkin he would really do this.

About 1/2 hour later we hear this horrific screaming coming from the porta john and he comes running out with his pants down around his knees, running to the water spicket!

He was off for a few days after that.

Well you really have to watch what you say to the young guy's sometimes. Also if you are working in a chemical lab, watch what you touch, also wash your hand before you use the bathroom.

Sucked BIGTIME! My boss just laughed at me the next day. My fingers looked like they had chemical burns on them Who would have thought that oil from the peppers would have still been that strong after a washing
