Default Attention - Password And Security Update

Hey all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,
Helena

Is this why the app keeps telling me I'm not authorized to access the site?

Haven't been having issues doing anything though

Dang! I just memorized my password after having it for years. I'm bad I use the same password for every thing. My memory is shot. I can tell who owes us money and how much but to remember my passwords.

You can change your email in the user cp, I just did and it didn't require me to verify with my old email address.

I opened user CP, then opened Edit email & Password. Was this the correct way to change my password?

That is fine. They haven't implemented the new stuff yet though (we will update this thread when we do) so you might be prompted to change it again, once that happens.

Not sure what someone would do with my PT account? Maybe post a few spam threads and emails before my account gets locked.

Before we do the password reset, we want all users to ensure that the email address associated with their account is correct and up to date. Password resets get sent through your email address, and if you no longer remember, or have access to the email address you registered with you will not be able to get back in. To change your email address, click here.

Don't know if notifications still work, but wondering if you guys have a list of what our old passwords were? Wondering if I should change my passwords on any other sites that had the same one.

I do not have a list but I don't recommend using the same password on multiple sites.
