Sure ... if the internet was what it was today.

There are those who can't think for themselves, those who can, and those who think outside of the box.

I am a mover and a shaker in the inustry. I would prefer to expand one's thinking about paint rather than talk about what we have.

Little things like pouring some vanila extract into the paint to make it smell better. Those are DIY things. But, they change the way we do things.

The LOW VOC "GREEN" rage isn't prompted by us ... DIY people started that stuff. And TY for that!

Lead paint ... the DIY got a taste of the CDC telling them to be more careful with paint. All those kid's toys and cribs with lead paint ... CHINA.

You need to be more than the guy who slaps paint on the wall and makes the house look "purdy"! You are a "CHEMICAL APLICATION TECHNICION"! Learn as much as you can about what you use and what you put on other people's houses!

Let me try to put this to rest once and for all.

This site was created for paint contractors, employees of paint contractors, paint manufacturers, or any employed in the paint contracting industry, etc.

It was not created for homeowners, DIY'ers, wannabes, or anyone else trying to do what we do for a living. This is for several reasons. As someone mentioned above, no one hear really wants to answer stupid questions from Suzy Homeowner; we usually get paid to do that. If Suzy Homeowner wants to know what color to paint here living room, there are literally hundreds of forums for design and DIY on the web already. Nathan has one set up that we as moderators send them too. But the main reason we do not allow non-contractors here (same reason as ContractorTalk) is that we can and will discuss sensitive information about our our jobs. Pricing issues, dealing with difficult customers, dealing with idiot customers, etc. We do not and will not want to talk about such very important parts of our job while knowing our potential customers may be participating in that thread.

Those who do not mind chatting with non-contractors and home owners are free to join in over at the DIYChatroom at any time. And no one will laugh at you for doing it.

That is about as clear as I can make it for a lazy Saturday afternoon. Understand. Hmm, I should I lock this or not?

Sometimes PWG really gets me mad. While I'm putting my broken lap top back together, he answers in the manner I was going to. DARN YOU PWG !!

The only thing I woulda added.... Them's the rules, if you don't like it, go start your own BB...... and good luck to ya.

BTW, PWG, the new screen works. Now let me see:
Laptop - Free.
60 Gig hard drive - $70.
New screen after stupidly breaking it - $40.00.
My time dealing with it all - Priceless !!!

"Paint Talk - Professional Painting Contractors Forum"
I do agree with boog a lil bit. I just won my last staining job by appearing knowledgeable about my coatings. It impressed the lil ole lady, she called my first listed reference, who confirmed it, got the job with her not even getting her other two estimates. So I do agree that being knowledge about all aspects of painting can help you get bids, etc.
on the flip side, I have learned a ton on PT since I joined a couple weeks ago. This is probably largely due to the fact that there are not diy'ers watering it down, just painting pros with good intuition and real world experience. I'd say keep it the way it is.

Then you guys need to weed out any drywall guys, tapers, mudders, and other guys that have names that don't relate to paint.

If your strictly paperhanger should be here on paint talk?? I know PWG you do paint also or have it done it..(that's not directed at you) But if the mods are gonna draw a line it needs to be a universal line... How do we know half the guys here are who they say they are??

MAK, paperhanging, drywall, tapers, mudders, and other guys that have names that don't relate to paint. These are all things that you can buy at any interior exterior paint store. With much love for ya, I feel these are all related to what this forum is about. Also, thats the funny thing about the net, never know who you're talking to.

I think those stated above would be encompassed in:

How about we draw the line at CONTRACTORS. Or, people who do this for a living to support their family and pay bills, not in their spare time for their own home. That definition alone would cut out:

It would also cut out kids painting their rims and guys painting cornhole games for a family picnic.

True that. I post pictures of my jobs just to prove to myself that I'm not a fraud.
I want to see some pictures of Crow's (cough) work.

Personally I enjoy the off topic posts and discussions. It's like hanging out with a bunch of painters after work shootin the ****. Like in the real world stupid **** comes up and everyone roles with it.

I think it's hilarious when a DIY posts a question on painting and V roles with it while NEPs takes it to another level. Classic!

I view this site for the important, and great information it provides, along with the levity offered up to help wind down the day.
