Apparently I do not meet the requirements to be an active member on paint talk and have been met with a majority negative responses too a seemingly innocent enough thread. Therefore. I am requesting to be banned from paint talk. Thank you.

Done. Feel free to visit the DIY chatroom. Given that it is for homeowners, it may be more to your liking and more welcoming. Thanks!

Is it possible to create an area on these forums that IS for homeowners/clients to ask questions or give feedback. I found Historic House's post informative in terms of what HO's are thinking. Let's face it the construction industry as a whole and painters in particular do not have the best reputation.

HO's are leery of contractors and rightfully so. I've seen numerous threads here lamenting the preponderance of hacks or unskilled painters that we all have to contend with. HH's response is likely a reflection of his experience with said hacks.

I already know what a bad idea this would be. However, for those who do not, I say fire it up.

I will make some popcorn.

Way off subject, but is your website under construction for sure?
Can't wait to see the new one!

Our website got hacked. We had to take it down. It will be up and running again, soon, with hopefully a more secure network package.

If we kept an open mind and we didn't act like spoiled know-it-alls we might gain some insight from it while also educating any HO's that post here.

Roamer,

I agree that getting GOOD, honest, non-ax-to-grind, spoiled brat, reasonable feed back from responsible adult homeowners could be helpful.

Unfortunately, with what I know about the internet, a venue like that will also attract all sorts of bad apples who are as much to fault as the complaints they offer up.

My troll radar for the historic home guy was severely pinged. And he was prolly one of the most reasonable characters a "HO feedback forum" would attract.

I am sure you have noticed the the internet has NOT become a kindler and gentler place. Did you see the news about the vitriol Curt Shilling's daughter attracted ? That type of "keyboard warrior" is just waiting for their chance for a little attention? Sheeeeet, we've even experienced our fair share of sociopathic "real" painters whose ego is bigger than their intelligence, sense of fair play, and decorum.

Yes, getting honest feedback from reasonable HO's is helpful. You find a way to make sure that's what a venue like that would attract and I'll support it 100%.

Sorry, but after 66 years, I'm a tad cynical.

I agree that trying to provide a format for HO's and DIYers here to seek advice and help would lead to more issues than it would ever hope make up for. Just look at the way most of those threads go now and then multiply that by who knows how many. Sure, many of those issues are a result of how they are responded to by PT members, but appealing to them to behave themselves would likely prove futile at best. And as a mod, I would certainly not want to have to ride shotgun on that particular sub-forum.

I think the present system of redirecting HOs/DIYers to the DIY forum works pretty well. Although I have never spent much time there myself, apparently many pros do and hopefully they are willing to provide assistance within that venue.
