Right or wrong, that's where the membership has migrated IMHO. And I'm sure forum owners in general have noticed the trend, are are working to combat it.

So the question posted by Bill still remains: How do we get participation going again? Obviously the contests, reward points etc that the owners tried havent gone over well with the membership here. It's been a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't kind of thing IMHO. I don't know what the answer is, but I eagerly await the suggestions.

What has turned me off the most to PT is that there is there is more complaining here than any other forum I visit. And I am not talking about the moderator side of reported posts, but just in the general forum.

Yep, we have lost that fun, positive vibe. Personally, I've withdrawn a bit also for various reasons, but that's one of them.

Sad to say but nothing ...

you tried pro painter and everyone cried

your don't verified posters so anyone can post @hit and stir it up (but you still get your clicks)

you don't stop stalkers from harassing us

only 30% of post are true paint related that help painters

you don't promote true painters post like painting cabinets, correct way to pressure wash, basic prices of painting but will promote pictures of bridges, wildlife or grilling

not get me wrong i check your site daily giving you the clicks you want but as far as posting quality paint related issues i do that at other places, i may give you a nuget every now and then but share more at other sites

sorry i know is sounds rude but i would rather share my 37 years experiences with people who want to hear what i have to offer

PT has many great members & cricket has been the best

but as far as a professional site i would give it 4 out of 10

Well admin is great. And the mods are as well (or so we're often told). So, that only leaves one thing... we need a better class of regular members!!!

For the life of me I can't understand why the Paint Pro of the Month (or Quarter) generated so much resentment among some of the members here. WTH. It's like we have a group of painters/paint contractors here that are about 5 or 6 years old. Somebody else got a trophy and you didn't? Sometimes I think there is a generational divide here.

Is it passion what gets people involved?

What are we passionate about ?

Kate Upton? not family friendly

Politics? separate milquetoast section

Religion? verbotin

Behr and Valspar? frowned upon

and if the general populace does show a lot of passion, threads and people disappear. But controls are necessary to keep tempers on an even keel. But we seen what happens when controls are not evenly and fairly dispensed.

Perhaps we seen, in general, the golden years of internet forums. Now the instant ADD input of FB has taken over - where what your dog had for breakfast is tops of the pops.

But don't worry, FB will also go the way of AOL and MySpace. Maybe people will retrotrend and actually TALK to each other.

What about allowing (and promoting) companies like Sherwin, PPG, Wooster, etc to talk to the people who actually use the products on the regular.

Maybe start a dyi section. We stop jumping down new members throats at least until we get to know them. Give always will only work if its a random drawing and not voting by us. I'm way to tired to think any more, maybe later today after I wake up more. This getting up at 3:45 and driving an hour is kicking me are.

Lol Chrisn. Suck it up buttercup.

Bill I would much rather leave before 5 and have a non stop drive than sit in traffic for who knows how long. Plus there is a real good mom and pop breakfast place right here.

I hear you. MUCH nicer spending that extra hour having a relaxing breakfast than in traffic.

It wasn't too long ago that one could leave the North Shore AFTER 5:00 and have a clean ride in. The traffic is starting earlier and earlier - I guess that says something positive about the economy. And with all the construction projects in the city, it's all the trades that are on the roads that early.

So what if we set up the PZ as the PRW Zone?

Politics - allowed
Religion - allowed
Whining - allowed

This lets us keep the Business Zone business as was the intent.

I'm really sorry that we as Mods and the Admins / Owners have screwed this place up so much. Clearly it's our fault that none of the promotions worked. That we tried to keep the BZ business. That we tried to keep the dirty laundry out of public view. That we tried to keep a sense of maturity in the open sections of the forum.

Maybe we misjudged when we thought most of the members would appreciate it. Maybe we misjudged when we thought most of the members could handle it in a mature fashion.
Maybe we misjudged the level of professionalism in our members.

Clearly though, it is no fault of their own. We, as Mods, Admins, and Owners must take responsibility.

So let's just cut the hypocrisy and instigating bull5hit, see about setting the PZ up as the PRWZ and let you guys have at it.

BTW: Setting this section up will allow the general area of the forum, open to public view, have the illusion that we are a forum for professional painters.

And, if it does get set up, we'll even see about disabling the "report post" button so you guys can handle it yourselves.

Seems like a win - win to me.
