I'm sorry, I'm not helping.

This. I've wanted to say it SO many times but couldn't find a decent way of wording it.

I personally would like a word limit per post. Post anymore are a long drawn out debacle that I simply don't have time for. I'll take a break at work, open up PT on my phone, and 15 minutes later I've only read one thread. And it's not like multiple members are contributing, it's the same ole folks day in day out. Blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah. Word count per post, or post per day limit.

Don't mind my long drawn out debacle of a post 😁

First of all, to explain:

Yes, at times my sarcasm knows no bounds. Even at that, I understand "tongue-in-cheek" comments tainted with a healthy dose of passive-aggressiveness.

I was/am totally serious about seeing if we can set the PZ up to include what I suggested. Maybe then, it wont be so milquetoastee. (I made that term up obviously)

The obvious concerns are if the discussions, disagreements, hard feelings, can be kept out of the publicly viewed forum. I guess that's up to those who participate.

But, I will say this: For those of you who don't have tough skin, have mental sensitivity issues, are easily offended, etc., , it probably wont be the place for you. My comments about not being happy and leaving to some members, was as RH described, just trying to get them to grow a pair.

All this being said, this will have to be run past the rest of the Mods, Cricket, and the Admin teams. Contrary to what was said, the Mods do not have the final decisions.

I'll see about there being no required number of posts, however, due to the nature of the section, it should probably be kept "admittance by request". Obviously there will be some rules to abide by, but we'd try and keep it as "moderation free" as possible.

It will probably take a couple of weeks to get this ironed out, so just have some patience. In the meantime, keep the thread going, come up with suggestions and be realistic that not everyone will be happy....there will probably be compromises to be made.

This place seems to have changed a lot since I first joined. Mostly for the better IMO.

Despite recent incidents, it seems like there is less negativity overall than when I first joined. Mercilessly mocking newbs, or posters for asking basic questions is no way to increase participation. If you want to see what that does, check out the CT painting forum. It's a ghost town.

Does anybody have actual stats on participation levels? Is it really that slow around here given the time of year?
I would vote for this as well. To keep religion out of political discussions is akin to keeping yin and yang separated from each other. I truly believe one's political convictions are grounded from, or at least flow from, one's moral values. In turn, one's moral values are grounded in religious principles or philosophical principles. Thus, prohibiting religious discussion while allowing political discourse results in a quite incomplete dialogue, or rant.

I believe most of us are thick-skinned enough to deal with the fallout.

Personally, I enjoy long-winded posts. Some people here can write well and have well-developed brains (myself excluded). As long as they use paragraphs, let it flow!!!

I'm as ADD as anyone, and I too can't wade through long posts.

I hate not being able to express myself succinctly and resorting to novellas. But, as they say, stuff happens.

Just had a way OUT THERE idea to "encourage" more participation.

If in a month's time you post UNDER a certain number of entries, something less than favorable happens.

Maybe you get Reward points taken and given to charity, I don't know. It's a bad idea, how can I think of a good punishment

After being talked into organizing and setting up the current PZ, let me go on record to say Religion is a bad idea. As usual I point to CT's PRZ. Last time I looked it was a cesspool.

Have a look at Craigslist discussion groups and check out both the politics and religion groups. If that's what you want, participate.

Done a little research in the past couple of days to see what draws traffic. And surely, Craigslist P and R discussion groups are busy - people are VERY passionate. BUT, is that what we want here ?

I have a suspicion that about the same number of members who actively participate in the PZ will participate in a PRZ. Most of these members keep a civil tongue.

Of course, things could get sketchy. Personally, I try really hard to never post anything that could offend another member. I assume I'm not alone with the self-censorship.

You could be right, however...you've been around the block a couple more times than have I.

You know Arch, everyone has their own thing they are either going to join in or not. I don't go into places like PZ because I don't care what you guys think politically, and I don't want youse guys to hate me!

I'd rather be oblivious. And I am obviuosly just here for a good time. C'est la vie.

See Bill, you're totally missing the point here: You are not forced to participate in it. No one is. If a thread offends you, stay out of it. Once you get another year of retirement under your belt, you wont feel a need to comment in every thread. You'll be like me. "Eh, no need to read/comment on this stuff.". Life gets real easy then. Promise.

I guarantee if you let me in to the PRW, I'll be the first one banned from the no -ban zone, haha.

Okay maybe the second, after Wisey.

And, if it turns into a cesspool......it's their cesspool.

Wolf,
I'm totally missing the point?

Please, a LITTLE credit. This ain't my first rodeo.

We are trying to BUILD traffic, not redirect a portion of the traffic into accident prone sidings.

Let me volley that same comment back over the net to you.

Now from what I was hearing, wasn't the entire idea about having a "free for all" sub-forum? With nothing off the table?

The PZ? The PRESENT PZ ?

Absolutely NOT. The idea was NOT to have a free for all.

It does sound like the PRZ is being groomed for that, but I could have read Wolf's intent wrong.

No, I was referring to the idea that is on the table about a new no limits sub-forum (PRZ), as I thought you were. Guess I misunderstood what you were referring to.

This lets us keep the Business Zone business as was the intent.

I'm really sorry that we as Mods and the Admins / Owners have screwed this place up so much. Clearly it's our fault that none of the promotions worked. That we tried to keep the BZ business. That we tried to keep the dirty laundry out of public view. That we tried to keep a sense of maturity in the open sections of the forum.

Maybe we misjudged when we thought most of the members would appreciate it. Maybe we misjudged when we thought most of the members could handle it in a mature fashion.
Maybe we misjudged the level of professionalism in our members.

Clearly though, it is no fault of their own. We, as Mods, Admins, and Owners must take responsibility.

So let's just cut the hypocrisy and instigating bull5hit, see about setting the PZ up as the PRWZ and let you guys have at it.
what's that?
