I'd buy a shirt.......

Seems like the program is just buying members and/or posting. Other than putting a few bucks in a members pocket what does the member benefit from it? Hell! I would rather see the money go to charity, that is a great idea. What is the point of a member being pro anything of the quarter? It seems it just inflames and crushes egos all at the same time. Some of the contenders can barely run a business or establish a crew, some (including myself) have posted utter garbage, note the post count.

The winner of the Paint Pro of the month program certainly has the option to donate the money they win to anyone they want.

But again, I am not going to debate on HOW the program is implemented. Please read the first post in this thread again. Thank you for understanding.

Cricket where in my post did you get my attempt to modify or implement the program? I only stated i would rather see the money go to charity. Still would like to know how the program benifits the members.

It should also be noted that PT has lost some valuable members since the programs were installed. PT has moved from Professional Painting Forum to a Commercialized Painting Forum

As I said, you can certainly donate the money if you win. We simply wanted a way to give back to the community and to be able to feature our painters and their business.

If you don't want it, vote no and move on.

Cricket,

Is there an option to keep the PPOTQ and have ADDITIONAL contest(s) to "give away some tools or gift cards monthly or bi-monthly based on some other criteria" ??

Perhaps that would make everyone happy (or at least MOST everyone happy)

Or would that just be over saturation with games, contests, and rewards ?

Personally, if someone wants to donate their winnings, great. I would rather see them make the personal decision to do so than have that mandated for them.

The Hope thing at CT is cool because it is optional and probably not obvious who donated their points or does not.

I'm sensing some not so good vibes here. I'm not upset or even offended, you asked for feedback. That is what I gave, I apologize if it was taken wrong.

Have a good night Cricket!

You make a valid point, giving from a personal decision is much better than a forced decision. But yet, the money is not yours until you officially win it, right? So if PT decided to donate the money instead of giving it through a contest, this would be their right. I can respect it either way.

No need to take offense. This is a discussion as I thought.

I certainly don't have a problem with the program, or free money.

I don't feel belittled because I haven't won, and may never win, but I am not someone that gets bitter at the success of others (unless they stole success by cheating rules or people).

But I do believe in the value of honestly looking at something in the beginning and making necessary corrections, rather than lamenting the problems at the end; because that doesn't do anyone any good.

What is the owner's goal with the contest?

If it is just to reward members, then I think it is fine as is. Will the same 6-8 people win it over and over?

Who knows? Maybe.

But why does anyone care?

I know I'm not here to campaign for a thousand dollars. I'm here to learn things I don't know and help those that I can help because I think we would all be better off if everyone knew how to understand the value of what they offer.

But, I will happily buy myself an NES game every time I have enough reward points to get an amazon gift card.

Cricket I liked the PPOTM program more than the Quarter, but it's one of those, 'hey, I got voted/won ~blank~. That's cool' `pats self on the back`

Look, I know I am probably the most vocal person against this. But I have always been taught even in the factory management days to look at the bigger picture.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. And when offered a free lunch, don't just eat it.

I don't hate your guts cricket (or anyone else I named in these conversations). Everyone seems fairly cool on this board for the most part.

Contests are never fair. Especially votes. If you wanna give stuff away, make it random regardless of what it is.

There's no favoritism, politics, rewarding bad behavior when it's random.

But when you do giveaways based on post count, or votes it is only going to encourage bad behavior. And that why I say guy like me will never win.

I'm not gonna hijack threads with random thoughts like a 10 year old kid with a.d.d to get a shirt (I've seen these complaints about thread hijacking getting crazy).

I am also not going to go out there and bash behr paint, thump my chest and berate new guys to inflate my cyber ego in some vain effort to gain "respect" on a forum to win a prize.

COULD I post more? Sure, there's a thread about spray techniques I would like to impart some wisdom on, as well as a few others. But I'll stay quiet, because quite frankly these promotions give off the vibe that unless I spew my life story in 5000 posts then I don't matter. Instead, it's best to just sit back and soak it in.

By all means, give stuff away. But be careful how you do it. It's a double edge sword.

(The "hope" thing was awesome. And is why I post more at that forum btw)

Default Keep Paint Pro Of The Quarter Program? Yes or No?

I like the idea of Ppotm, just not how the winner is selected. For every 1 person participating there might be a hundred or so visitors just reading. Let the visitor population vote.

With that being said I still vote "yes", something is better than nothing.

You asked for feedback, and this is what I have to say.

Well, Cricket. The problem with PPOTQ, is not PPOTQ in itself, it's the criteria to be nominated. Thus far, newbies don't stand a chance of winning. It's more like PPOTQ retroactive or favorite member of all time. So I see this contest as not having balance among the community. And to me, it's more than just about the money. I feel it's a slap in the face, for other good tradesmen and business owners, to see PPOTQ winners sporting a PPOTQ banner, which appears to be a permanent fixture in their profile, once they have won. I believe the PPOTQ banner should be removed from a winners profile within a given period of time. To see, (6) members sporting a PPOTQ banner at the same time, I feel, is unfair to other members, that don't have the chance of winning due to politics. So rather than PPOTQ bring new PT members to the site, I feel it has a souring affect, and pushes people away.

Have you noticed that the members that are in favor of PPOTQ, are the ones that stand the greater chance of winning?

So to answer your question, if PPOTQ has to stay exactly as is, my vote is to remove it all together.

We have five total previous monthly winners. We have not yet had a quarterly winner.https://www.painttalk.com/articles/pa...f-the-quarter/

It is removed within a given amount of time. The badge remains under their name until their year is up. This also let's others easily see who is not eligible for nomination.
