Don't worry Workaholic, you have always been a "member."

There are other synonyms as well, but "member" is apropos.

Not now, but twenty years ago.

Having to be a registered user would be a major step in the right direction. Ton of forums won't allow you to see content until you are registered. Look at any 1 time there is 20 registered and 11teenbazillion guests. Talk about a leaking ship!

A solution could be sending a PM and copying all who are (or you think are ) interested.

Currently you can only send a PM to 3 members.

If the PM section would allow you to send to as many members as possible, you could just add you answers/questions/comments to the end of the email and hit "reply to all".
  1. This allows you to include or exclude whom you want.
  2. Most of the framework is in place.
  3. You can or cannot take part as you see fit.

This is probably the most realistic suggestion. It doesn't satify all the suggestions mentioned earlier (but - nothing will do that). I don't know computer systems, but I would think this would be painless to implement and enforce. Sure, some folks will register just to get in a question, but within a post or 2, y'all should be able to deem if that person is worthy of your time and insight.

If y'all are serious (and by the length of this thread you are), unite on an eazy, small solution and present to Nathan as a large group. The key is to agree on one simple improvement. Not scattered groups or varying ideas (although great for conversation - not good for change).

I am getting a little sick of the talk like Nathan is JC or even .....Obama. It would be nice if the guy stopped by once in a while and even gave his 2 cents.

Harry's board is looking better every day.

But what really tweaks me is censorship and some of the posts here sound like that is the direction they would like this forum to take.

I don't care if someone is not a professional painter, bonded, insured, or whatever. We are talking about a platform to freely exchange ideas. Let's keep it that way. If you don't like it, state your opinion or ignore it. I don't think the comments / advice made on this forum are truly going to affect the overall state of painting industry.

If you only want to share with your own group, try email.
I'm not as intellectual as some of you fella's.
But, I earned where I got today within my trade. I am not a hack, bootslammer, chancer, fly-by-night call it what you will.
It is my understanding that this forum is as it states a Professional Painting Contractors forum, and that is how it should be. Not a DIY forum or Help the Hack forum. Prove you have got your Ins./Bonded or whatever and by all means post away on here. Obviously us folks in the UK cannot do that and if you want us out, I'd walk willingly.

I do not want to have a barney with anyone on here Fresh Coat, but YOU may not care if someone is a pro, bonded, insured etc. all of which, the pro outfits do care as they have to be bonded etc. All costs money, all costs time to learn the trade. And to give it all away for free to a DIY'ers/hacks who have their own forum (for free at someones expence), and it is then suggested that a tradesman/pro may have to pay a dollar a month for the privalege of using a forum to help hacks. Me not thinks so. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Mods).
Are you in the category of being UN-insured, UN-bonded and "maybe" not a pro. Just asking, not accusing, don't take it the wrong way.
However, if you or anyone else are bonded/insured/in training to be a painter and decorator, then I for one would take my hat off to you and then encourage "How To" questions.

This is why the lads have all got their backs up answering simple questions about which scratch should I use before applying the final coat of "whatever paint finish"... "how much to apply xyz on a lid (ceiling to you hacks).

Whether a new section to the forum would help, that's not for me to say. It's Nathan's and you guys forum and I am only but a guest.

As you posted "If you only want to share with your own group, try email".
The same could be said for hacks/DIY'ers - use the DIY forum.

My ramblings for the day are over. Please beat me with a big stick at your own leisure and it's late (for me anyway)

Absolutely, I am fully bonded and insured. Apparently, I am not very representative of most folks that post here at PT (see my last post). I am a small business owner looking to exchange ideas with other small business owners.

The reason I defend Joe the Painter who is not insured is because I respect anyone tryin' to earn a living. Is it wrong - maybe. But, they've got to start somewhere and if they make mistakes along the way and learn and grow from these mistakes then they may eventually become great painters or business owners. These different levels of the painting industry will always exist. Really, my main point is: if you don't want to help then don't. Hope this makes some sense.
