Default Time limit to edit posts?

Is this something new or something I never noticed, having been a mod for so long?

I noticed a simple error I made two hours ago that I wanted to correct, but there was no edit button.

I can remember there was a time when as mods we discussed someone who had gone back and editted a number of his pasts posts.

When was this inability for someone to edit his own words after (less than 2 hours) instituted?

That sucks.

Again, is it my imagination or are a lot of things sucking here lately?

I have noticed the edit function has been on and off lately. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind it. The option is just there sometimes, and sometimes not.

At first I thought they had just removed the option all together. I went to fix a misspelled word right after i posted and wasn't able to. But then the next day, it was working like always.

As a chronic EDITOR, I find this trend disturbing. I've become accustomed to editing my post at my leisure, and long after my initial entry. Communication is extremely important, and we're not always completely accurate in what we're trying to convey. Not having the ability to edit at a whim, will eventually lead to a global war of epic proportions. Sad really.

I've always thought it would fun to post something, wait for a response and then go back and edit so that it would make the response seem wacky.

I, however have had trouble occasionally subscribing or looking at someone's profile page.

Just figgered it was a glitch.

Rumor has it that the passing of mod powers comes with a deep burden. No wonder Da Arch has remained after ceding his powers.

Names have been changed to protect the not so innocent.

Rumor has it that its been changed to 30 minutes. I only know this because I witnessed other malcontents crying about it on CT.

any reason given for creating these ill feelings from their bread and butter ?

Or has the explanation or even an acknowledgement of the issue from the owners been as lacking as usual ?

(now see, if I decide in 29 minutes that was a little harsh, I'll have no way to retract my statement)

I found out that you can actually run out of time while in the process of editing.

And there is a pop-up that tells you that there is a 30 minute time limit to edit posts.

I actually ran into Cricket on one of them social media places and was able to pose this question to her, as it is of great import to the pt community.

She basically said that their are varying levels of "editing privilege" now being offered on the forum. Evidently, vbulletin now has widgets that can be added to statistically track the posting behaviors of forum members.

Creepy.

Anyways, people who use the least amount of discretion in posting are given the lowest setting for editing privilege (least amount of time). People who post responsibly and don't backpedal, waffle or shart stir are allowed virtually unlimited time to edit (which they rarely use, except for spelling).

Kind of like credit ratings. Those who have excellent credit use it responsibly.

Interesting stuff.

Because of my medications, I need to be able to edit posts for 2 1/2 hours.

Maybe it's time for me to move on.

In the past couple of days, I've noticed that some posts can be edited for even a day later and some can't.

Looks like system hiccups rather than the elaborate rumors invented by the impotent few.

ooops, can't edit the the now freudian spell "mis-check"

EDIT: As an prime example: this post I can edit almost two hours later. So even in the same thread the limit changes. And RCP could edit in another thread while I couldn't.

Methinks the vBulletin code may be unstable
