Default What is permalink?

I noticed every post here is numbered. If you scroll over that number with cursor, "permalink" pops up. I clicked on one of the numbers once, and I guess I created a permalink? But I couldn't tell what, if anything, changed.

A PT search came up with no answers. A google search came up with a ton of info, all in tech speak.

I simply want to know in painter speak, what happens when I click on a post's number?

Does it highlight a post somehow or help me retrieve the post in the future or what?

I clicked on the number and I am still waiting for the exciting part to happen. Some one please wake me up when it does.

Yeah, someone more tech savvy than us will see the thread soon enough, and then tell us what we have been missing all these years.

Well, Monday has come and gone. Not a peep.

I'm guessing this permalink thing is irrelevant?

When you click on the number in the upper right, notice how it makes that post the first? Now look in the address bar and you'll see /#post1234.

That is the permanent link to that particular post.

Neat. Thank you!

So how do I make that useful to me?

Does "permalink" help you navigate through PT?

Hmm, only thing I think you would do is to copy the URL so you can post it elsewhere or email it to someone.

I'm not sure of the value of left clicking (PC mouse) on the "permalink", but I use it when I want paste the link to a post . I right click, click 'copy link location', and then paste it , e. g.

I paint paint said , "Neat. Thank you!" right here:

https://www.painttalk.com/f15/what-pe...58/#post838545

IMO, more easier than copying the url from the address bar

It simply allows you to create a link to a specific spot in a thread, rather than making them sort through every response to find what you are talking about.

When you click on the number, the address bar displays a new link which you can copy and paste to another location as needed.
