I am new to paint talk, and not yet really sure how this works. I am thinking about purchasing an aircoat. Does anyone have one, or use one? Is it worth purchasing. I have never used one before, but am looking to get a better finish than I get from my airless for custom finishes on doors, etc. Does it get expensive to use with parts, tips, guns, etc?
Please let me know any info you may have on aircoats, and whether you think owning one is worthwhile. Thanks.
my rep said the air coats have problems keeping up, you need a graco finish pro 390 or 395
I have a 395 for sale if you are interested, used, good shape.
I use my Aircoat just for spraying sanding sealer and lacquer. I love it! I bought it for a job that I had to stain and lacquer 25 pieces of new walnut furniture. I got it on sale for $1800 and the gun and tip will last you a long time.

yeah I am under the impression that the air assisted gracos are a better product. But I talked to a guy today trying to sell an aircoat for $400, he says its in really good condition (only used 3 or 4 times) and that it comes with 3 guns, 2 of them have never been used, plus a few other accesories. I'm gonna take a look at it tommorow and if it seems to be in good shape I will take it, I should be able to resale without much of a loss if I end up not liking and or needing it, at least I hope. It just kinda bugs me that I haven't heard alot about them good or bad. Thanks for your replies, I pretty much got one positive and one negative so far so Im still just as lost ..... hope someone else has got somthing for me...
I think you are right when it comes to spraying latex for sure. The reason I use my hvlp a lot is it is so easy to clean, and it takes less paint. If I paint a front door all I need is a quart of paint, but with my airless you have to at least have a gallon of paint, and long set up, clean time. You are right with the right tip on a airless you can't beat the finish.
Yeah thats true, but I find cleaning an HVLP to be a pain. 50' of airless hose holds roughly 1qt paint. Get a shorter hose Or, my trick, get paint in the line, then put suction tube in whatever you need to clean up water/thinner. The paint will continue through the line followed by the water/thinner. No waste that way
I often will put a short hose on if I am not moving really moving around and just spraying things in one spot. Saves on the amount of material that has to be in the lines.
I also agree with NC about using FF tips.
Any ideas on a container that would work better to stick your airless pickup tube into so it picks up the most paint? I thinking when you only have small amount of paint.
