Default Best 3 line classified ad?

It's difficult to distinguish yourself from the other painting Co's in the local newspapper.Any of you have a "go to" ad?..I don't think any of us compete with each other in the same city..

I've been using:

Company name

quality work,reasonable prices

drywall repairs,refs,free est.{PH #}

Newspaper charges $100/week or $300/month...Can anyone see a better use of this money?...I rarely if ever get a call this time of the year from the newspaper ad...Just had a meeting with a local, large interior decorating company..They want 10% of the contract...I wonder if you can write that off as an expense?...I currently give a designer cash under the table, but they want it above board....

I would try a town saver add. They can work out a deal with you if you take 3 months at a time. Around here it is around $400 a month. People always pick those up for pizza coupons and so forth

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

I finally put an ad in the local paper last weekend, having never done it before. Have yet to get a call, it runs for 30 days, cost 300 bucks. I have got 3 estimates and 2 jobs this week from e-mails and flyers, cost me virtually nothing except time. It's funny, when I told friends I put an ad in the paper, they all said "be ready for a bunch of business!" most people who aren't in business think all you have to do to sell something is put an ad in the paper, lol!

I've tried newspaper ads multiple times. I've only ever gotten 1 phone call from it, and I didn't even land the job.

There has to be better ways to spend your advertising dollars.

Or collecting stamps. At least you would have something to show for the money spent. I know people read the newspaper, but I think it is the way the paper advertises them. My local puts them in a block that you would have to really look through to even find. Horrible..

That ad needs further explanation.

I have never did the "X per room" thing in my ads...There are too many variables to consider imo.

1) Walls only,ceiling,trim,doors?

2) How many coats?

3) Prep included?..Do you spot prime the mudded repairs?..I find that even if you spot prime that day,it will still flash...

4) They supply the paint?...What if it is a crappy walmart or Home depot brand that doesn't cover or spread well?

$99/room sounds good if it takes you less than 2 hours to complete the wor
k.

Hell, I'd do just about any room for $99* (notice the *)

* rooms are spray finish only*, additional costs for cut work, masking trim, covering floors, covering light fixtures, fixing holes, paint pick-up, paint delivery, dirve time, break time, lunch time.......

local daily news papers are a waist of money, I do well in a multiple county penny saver "free paper weekly add" I have been told by h o's that the painters in the news paper they percieve as more expensive paint co's. so they look elsewhere thinking they will get a better rate.

The $99/room is at $97, 85 and now $75/room in my local weekly neighborhood newspaper.

i like the newspaper ad i run.

even if people dont call you today, and they see your ad and its consistent, they remember it.

i live in a rural area, so there are only 4 painters in our local paper.

if i lived in an area with dozens of painters in the paper, i would probably look at other ways to spend the advertising dollars.

I am baffled at how anyone can work for such a low rate. What is that - $4/hr?

I could understand the $97/room, if the room was 2 ft x 2 ft.
