Default Cabot in Lowes

I read today that Cabot will soon only be available at Lowes. I live about 45 minutes away from were Cabot use to have its headquarters. Lots of my customers still like and use their solid stains. The closest Lowes is a minimum of a one hour round trip. This does not include actually going into the store to purchase anything.
I am not a fan of having customers purchasing paint, nor am I a fan of spending 1 1/2 hours to purchase paint, and if they insist I am going to have to charge them to get the stain. Wonderful what is happeing to what use to be a great product.

If you remember, a couple of months ago Lowe's announced that they were the only nationwide retailer of Purdy applicators. Since then, Home Depot has pulled Purdy AND Minwax from their shelves. And I understand that they will shortly be pulling Thompson's from their shelves ad well. They are putting all these brands on clearance to get rid of them. Since Cabot's was owned by Valspar, and Valspar was bought by SW and Cabot's was incorporated into the Diversified Brands division of SW, I am not surprised that Cabot's is either getting the boot by Home depot or being pulled from Home Depot by SW/Lowe's.

The lions are fighting over a kill. I just hope they leave some scraps for the hyenas!

Cabot has been carried by my local Lowe's for years.

Never mind, Pete Martin. As I re-read your post I see that it will ONLY be carried in Lowe's. I need new glasses.

This is true. The biggest thing is the change to water based alkyds in their product line. People around here are having terrible problems with the Australian Timber oil, which used to be a pretty good performer. It is water based here now, and it doesn't penetrate worth a damn.

another little secret. if a Cabots product has a blue lid, it is a waterbased product.

yeah that's where i saw it. Forgot it specifically mentioned the Diversified Brands products though. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot though. They opened the door for Olympic at Home Depot, that's for sure!
