Default A Disturbance in the Force

Judging by some recent posts in various threads, there seem to be a bunch of members getting their feelings all mangled up over responses that don't jibe with their sensibilities.

This is a great forum and I look forward to learning from the helpful posts, laughing from the humorous ones, and contributing when I can. I'm a mellow guy and abhor confrontation unless it's absolutely necessary. The recent glut of bickering is messing with my zen-like wish for tranquility.

Being somewhat of a diplomat, I tend to take the road less bumpy when disagreements come my way. At the very least, I respectfully agree to disagree, or I just don't respond to anything that I believe falls out of the bounds of respectful discourse.

This disturbance in the force is unnecessary.

Seems to happen every year come the post holiday season. We mods have come to dread the month of February, which is when it seems to be the worst (likely due to a touch of cabin fever). But, it can crop up pretty much anytime.

As has been mentioned, simply follow the forum rules. Don't write anything to a member you wouldn't be willing to say to them in person. And if you really have issues with another member, use the forum ignore feature, or, deal with it through PMs. We truly don't want to give anyone a time out if we can avoid it - but we certainly will if need be.

I think the forum needs 1 or 2 additional mods.

Repaint Florida and CA would be good.

Jmays also comes to mind.

Maybe one of them can help to restore balance.

Hey SemiproJohn, disturbances happen sometimes. That's how real life works.

I am usually non confrontational. However, any normal person can only put up with so much. Anyone that wants to keep picking away at me is eventually gonna feel the force.

And as to what RH said about not saying something in the forum that you wouldn't say to their face......I would have no problem saying what I said to Pacman's face.

And hey Pacman! Thanks for the links , but being a business owner since 2001, I have had plenty of time to find tape. Oh, and BTW, you're on my ignore list now. Happy New Year.

Have I been banned? No? I didn't think so. Can a mod please review my posts and see if I have done anything to be banned? And if I did, feel free to do so. Using the ignore option is everyone's right, and I'm glad people feel free to take that option. Just like real life everyone has the right to walk away from any discussion they want to. Just like they have the right to overreact to peoples sarcastic comments. It's the curse of everyone that has a sense of humor AND an opinion to piss people off occasionally. So, please feel free to ban me or give me a timeout whatever, but from now on I'll be sure to say "bazinga" when I am being sarcastic or pointing out an irony, such as the reason 3m doesn't market the white safe release tape to the construction markets solely because it was a complete sales failure at that time. Now everyone wants it. But no one would buy it because it was $3 a roll at the time. I simply desired to point that out. People shouldn't get all "butt hurt" about it.

For them, maybe.

For me, my wife and I achieved stress free holidays years ago.

My post was just a plea for everybody to try and get along. Nothing more.

For what it's worth, I do not and have not ever considered myself to be better than anyone else on this forum. If my wording offended anyone, I sincerely apologize.

With no exceptions, everybody that has responded to this thread with a post or a like has provided information on other threads that I personally have found to be very helpful and have utilized to better myself as a painter/businessman.

Again, sorry if I came across as anything other than a member who just hopes other members get along. I do realize that people are going to react how they are going to react.

John

There are quite a few members who'd make great Mods. Balance? Not sure what you mean, but we all enforce the same rules basically the same way. We all have our own style, and in some cases the style has changed for some of us. Some will put up with more crap than others. But when it boils down to it, the rules are all enforced the same.

Really, it's a no win situation. Every year we go through a period when some members call for the Mod's heads. Now here's something you may find interesting; every year the same Mod's continue to be here. Contrary to what some may believe or try to have you believe, not one has been fired or asked to resign. Those that have left have done so for their own personal reasons. I can assure you that if Cricket or the higher-ups felt the Mods were abusing our positions, we'd hear about it and appropriate action would be taken. Another something you may find interesting: it hasn't happened yet.

But if you all want to vent about it in a respectful manner, may I suggest you take it to the Outhouse Section.

I believe Darth Vader brought balance to the force like you guys were asking for but I do not think it was pretty getting there if I remember the movies correctly. Which person wants to be Darth Vader and be the new mod? It might be kinda fun.

John, you had no ill intent when you voiced your opinion in your OP. And so far the thread has been fine. So far.

To add to what Wolf wrote, not all the mods are equally active at the same time. So it may sometimes seem that the same ones are popping up over and over. If that appears to be the case it's just likely that they are logging on a bit more and responding as needed.

FWIW I promise to lay off the cheesy Don Ho comments in the future. In my defense, there were TWO "tiny bubble" threads within days of each other. Low hanging fruit.
