So we were supposed to start a job at 8am this morning. I'm at the house at 8:02 and got an email sating your not here at8 like you said. So the HO ups and leaves without telling us.
I've gotten to where I try and set a range of time for when I'll arrive, like 8:00-8:30. There are just too many things that can cause a delay, especially on the first day of a job. Of course, sometimes a fixed arrival time is the only option.
I always call if I'm going to be more than 5 minutes late, which is pretty much never, I'm always early by 10-15 mins. Filming a movie here with all the roads closed caused some traffic back ups. But come on 2 minutes and he left.
What were they going to do, run right out the door in a big hurry to leave once you arrived exactly at eight o'clock? Maybe it was their responsibility to create a margin for themselves on this day, considering there might be some last minute details to go over with the contractor.
No paint purchased or deposit, it was a small trim job, maybe a days worth of work. They have been bumper to October now. If they find some one else oh well.
Ah, the beeper world. Back in the day, getting a page and then finding a pay phone didn't seem to be such an imposition. It sure would be one now.
To me, that would be a strong indicator of what it could be like to work for that person. I think I would simply consider forgetting their phone number and hope they forget mine.
just curious, how long would you wait for the SW store to open if the manager was running late? I had a painter in today that told me he has to wait at least 20 minutes every time he has an order called in for the store to open. ? Why?
To be fair, he (the homeowner) didn't know the contractor was 2 mins, or 20 mins late. Had he known it was only 2 mins, he likely would've waited. If he must leave --as someone said on the previous page, he might be a very punctual person, or have an important meeting etc, that is okay, I think. What is not cool is, he knew the contractor and his guys were on the way to his house to work there, but didn't give them access. He could've left the front/side/back door unlocked, or the key somewhere outside the house, or the garage code etc, and let the contractor know via email.
While he might not realize someones might lose a day's work and pay, he should at least sense that it was kind of inconsiderate and disrespectful of him to just leave like that..
Over two minutes, I'd bet you could approach 5 people and ask them exactly what time their phone/watch/whatever says and at least two would be more than two minutes off.
Two minutes is the amount of time someone would wait if they got stuck at a light. Would you fire a good helper if they were two minutes late once? If it was a pattern, that's a different story.
I'm consistently early for everything, which is annoying standing around sometimes. But every now and again...... life happens.
Ya'll need to make the switch to ecigs. Never stinking like smoke again is reason enough to make the switch. Not to mention vaping costs me less than $100 for the entire year.
I've tried the ecigs, not bad. I just have to keep buying them in order for them to work. Some stores around here don't sell them, I'm the type that will not drive from store to store so I just grab a pack of cigs instead.
Those are the cheap ones. You should get a unit with a rechargeable battery and fill it with juice once a day. I make my own juice so I never have to go to a store to buy anything for it.
I tried those damn patches but they are hell to keep lit.
