Here is some information that may help.

It was delivered today and they want to treat all sides before it is installed. Just not sure what to do. My first guess was a timber oil.

Penofin has always worked for me. I dont come on here often but no matter how long you have been doing this you still have questions. Thank you for the replies.

Armstrong Clark

Messmers

Wood Tux

Also, no matter how good the stain is the wood is going to be very hard and not soak in very well like the other wood species. I have people on yearly maintenance contracts, but if they can afford this expensive wood they can afford up keep also.

Ipe is so dense that stain does not actually penetrate very well. Its a ongoing project.

The pictures you guys post of mahogany with penofin certainly look pretty - but all the work you post is brand new construction. What's it like down the road in terms of longevity and maintenance issues. Anybody can make a brand hardwood deck look pretty - it's maintaining down the road on a budget for the homeowner that doesn't break the bank is the issue.

Good questin Dan. In both of my links in this thread, all ipe pictured is in maintenance coat stages. It maintains well, I wouldn't stick with it if it didn't.
