"Hi Dan, are you hiring?"
"Not right now but tell me about yourself"

"I'm the greatest! I painted million dollar homes in Sun Valley. I painted Walmarts. I run my own business for years, but I cant for the next 15 months. I'm on work release"
RED FLAG
"Look Dan, I hate to brag but I bet I know more then you do about painting"
RED FLAG
"Hmm, well you sound pretty talented. What kind of money are you looking for?"

"10 an hour"

All kinds of places hiring for 10 an hour around here, and they're alot easier than painting.

Funny, the same guy called me this week. And last year, and the year before. Virtually everyone who calls looking for a job is the greatest, but few wanted to be paid like it. I guess they are playing Santa Claus.

Wasn't he posting here recently? You know that PDCA president in NC. Of course he wasn't going to admit to the work release program.

Hey, for $10 and hour, I could stay in bed a few more hours and not worry about losing money. Heck, I'd probably be SAVING money by not working for that wage.

So did you give him the job? You will probably have to pick him up and drop him off at the work release center.

I had one of these guys at one point. Had to give my cell phone number to the center so they could randomly check on him. I was not responsible if he decided run but was to notify the center at once if he did. He was a friend of my cousins who needed work until he was released. Kinda became a pain in the ass because he wanted me to cover for him while he did other things.

That is how family and friends are. I to have dealt with it for a short time for a friend of mine once. PITA is right.

Ive been doing good, Have a large house on college parkway near Annapolis in a few months that will have me tied up for about 4 months. Its for a builder, me and another painter do his work and most of the time we get a few guys to help out. Right now he is working on the exterior and its just him........I will get with him sometime this week and see what the game plan looks like a shoot you a line to see whats going on.

Hopefully you will get work brother.

Thats tru. Thing is I spent last five yrs training to be a painter. For someboday like me, we gotta take the lower pay cuz it offers the possibility of future promotion. Sucks though.
One thing, there are plenty of jobs out there that would benefit by havin an experienced painter (or tradesmen). Liek for example got an offer spraying used office furniture for resale.

I'm starting to get phone calls just like that. I always get a few throughout the year, but this spring there seems to be alot more. When they start to tell me how wonderful they are I seem to lose my train of thought with them. Humble is good.
