It may not be in the best interest of PT to bait people.

Let sleeping dogs lie, please.

I agree with Arch that baiting posts will not do any good and they are right in the same line as why our Wise one got a 30 day ban.

Funny, someone actually emailed me about this thread. So I thought I hand out some thanks. (Not NEPS). I just got done with some billing, requesting certs and bids. It seem I am just running out of day to get all my work done. I do admit lurking here and there. Who cares if NEPs want to thank some one he can. He's not banned. And don't think he would care if he was. It's not that hard to get around a ban. Don't know why wise got banned sense I just scan through new threads. I just don't have the time to read threads on if one should remove food from a ceiling prior to painting. Never understood why that thread lasted this long. Got deals cooking and days are burning quick. Before you know it we will be in TwentyEleven and will you still be concerned about a thanks from a lurker? Or will you be ready for the boom to come? If not your competition might be ready.
Good luck to all.

Neps and VP both contributed alot of useful information to this site, and I'm sure they could do so more if they chose. There does come a time, for whatever reason, that people choose to move on. It's not for me to judge why.

I dont know quite know how I feel about a 30 day ban. Maybe best to look at it as a 30 day cooling off period for those who need it...whether they realize it or not. Again, not for me to judge.

A 30 day ban is an effective way to allow a cooling down and some reflection. It's tough to slap a hand here. I really enjoy 95% of the people, yes Wise included. But we all are human and we all step out of line. Sometimes we need a little reminder. Hell, I got a freindly reminder not too long ago. I appreciated it.

So I hope Wise does not take the band as a total censure, but as a reminder that we need to be extra careful in these tough times. This forum is a great place for support and ideas. Let's help each other weather this storm. As the new pres of the NGPP says, "Forward Together".

NEPs and Vermont were contributing to this board well before most of their critics. I think baiting them is a cheap Troll tactict. As grown men, I respect their decision to lurk.

I enjoyed reading the defiant Wise Painter. I'm sure he's expressing a lot of what the solo painters are feeling in this troubled economy. To ban him for thirty days, is to censor opinons everyone one should have the right to share. Unless, of course they're vulgar attacks.

Don't know if it's my business, but this place is less than it could be without NEPs and Vermont.
Plainpainter is "a bit" of a pessimist but he belongs here. (Edit:changed my mind on Plainpainter, his anger is misdirected)
Don't know what happened to Wise Painter, his is a point of view
Not that wise I don't think, but a mutual admiration society this should not be.

I know NEPS and VP came across harsh on the clueless looking for advice. But overall, they had some of the best contributions here.

ITS A PAINT FORUM!!! I mean really? Something made somebody so upset to rant and bash another member and get banned? Seriously, are we that lame people? Its PAINT.....come on. I just talked to my wife and mentioned that someone got banned on my paint site....you know what she said? " you mean theres a bigger nerd out there than you?" I was stunned, she's not known for the awesome slams like that....cool.

I agree. Remember VP's discussion about cedar?

He had processed some ridiculous amount of Linear feet of cedar, and he really new his sh*t about the topic.

I remember reading 2 or 3 points he made about cedar that are crucial to the longevity of coating it that I had never heard before, and I thought I knew everything I needed to know about cedar.

I think the unruly posts against noobs were something that were proliferating for a variety of reasons, but that behavior would have easily been stopped when Nathan reminded us of the goals for this forum to not be unkind to other members.

Lets not forget that there were some noobs here at the time who were RELENTLESS at provoking people and shooting their mouths off, all from a position of what amounts to zero experience in the trade.

VP and NEPS were involved in that battle and were at their harshest as as result of some VERY DISRESPECTFUL, impudent, immature attacks on VP and NEPS.

I am not saying that they didn't have a proclivity to rough up a noob now and then, but I believe they would have been just as capable as the rest of us to curb that general noob hazing that was occuring when Nathan reminded us of his intentions for how people interact on this site.

Ironically, NEPS made a suggestion that he thought would improve the site and certain people were being very critical towards him about the suggestion.

I guess it must not have been such a bad idea, because after everything was said and done, Nathan wound up implementing that very same suggestion.

---------------

Then after NEPS and VP were gone, lots of people took shots at them in absentia.

It is hard to know to what extent post facto words towards VP and NEPS had on their resulting attitude and words for this place after they left.

But there is no doubt about one thing. VP and NEPS knew their sh*t, and were real painters, with real experience and a lot of insight into techniques, products, and procedures.
