Default Questionable finish

Howdy painters

I have a job that I bid last year that finally came back accepted.
The issue is that I bid it for a Sikkens maitainence coat and it was actually never determined what kind of finish is currently on it.
It is def a film forming finish though. Kinda shiny and looks like Sikkens.
My bad. Last year I tried to do the homework by contacting the company who built the log home. ( they weren't any help) and the customer doesn't have any records re: the finish.
I wrote it up for Sikkens assuming that was what it was/ or could be figured out later..
2 part question. How do I determine what is on it? Will Sikkens log and siding work over other coatings?
Ok.. 3rd question.. I have a signed contract and a deposit that I haven't deposited yet. Can I get out of this until someone determines what finish to use?

Other than that the season has been going quite well despite the cool temps. (actually loving the cooler weather here in NE PA)

Thanks for any thoughts

How were you able to write up a bid, not knowing what the prep would entail?

How many years are your bid prices good for?

Most proposals/estimates will have a limitation on how long you will honor it for.

Can you try a sample, and see what it does?

Get your rep out there ASAP to assist you. Shouldn't be too big of an issue to explain to the HO's what's going on and request an extension. Or, give them the option of going with someone else if there's still time for them to do so.

All valid questions I wish I would have considered.
I wrote it up for Sikkens because I assumed it is and it does look like it.
Also that is one of the highest priced products going so I felt I would be covered $$ wise.
Prep is going to be the same. Wash and 1 maintenance coat as it is in good condition still.
My contracts don't have a time limit specified.. that is something I will change directly.
As far as reps go my closest dealer is 45 miles away...
If I get a chip off of the log I wonder if the rep could tell whether it is Sikkens.
Anyway..Thanks for the input so far.
