I have often heard the phrase, "push the job out a ways. But I have never heard, "pull it in a ways", used.

Coming in late just to say that "next vs this" thing has always confused me, so I just look like I know what they're talking about and say "can you mark that on the calendar for me and initial it" as I hand them my clipboard. Which is a lot easier to do offline.
