Default some questions about wood deck ceiling

i am about to start a job with wood deck ceiling. i was assured that BM latex dryfall was the product to use however today after using it i am not trusting it to cover the aged wood. some stains are bleeding through. it is unpainted with 1 foot tresses. will alkyd dryfall solve this or am i going to need to prime the wood or two coats? any suggestions advice greatly appreciated.
