Default SW trivia

Little trivia for you guys. This SW logo has been around for many years. What location are they pouring the paint on? I know 'Cover the earth' but there is a specific location that this logo shows being covered with paint.

That's easy. But being the first one to respond I'll not spill the beans so we can see what everyone thinks.

Here's a harder one. Prior to the "Cover the Earth" logo, what was the logo of Sherwin Williams?

That's actually just a calling card. It's not the "logo" per se.
If you have one of the original brass hanging SW signs, you are sitting on a pretty big payday. They go for $10,000 to $15,000. Each.

Huh, the site I got that from said it was the original. Thought you'd like "The most sinister logo" part.

It was actually a chameleon on an artists pallet. i have a picture of it in the SW 125 anniversary history book I have. I may try to scan it because I don't see the actual logo on the internet anywhere. There is one that is close and there are some paper weights but they aren't the actual logo that was on the store signage. The original store signs where two sided cast brass that hung down from a stanchion that was mounted in front of the stores. (I was told this story by one of the people who were the unofficial company historians before they opened up that department in the 80's.) They were used in the late 1880's until the cover the earth logo was created in the 1890's. The company asked for the signs back from the stores and the dealers when the new logo came out. Some didn't get returned to SW. When WWI broke out, SW took the signs that had been returned and turned them in to be recycled into artillery shells.

At the time I was told this, there were believed to be fewer then 7 in existence out of fewer then 30 originally cast. I have never heard this story anywhere else, so I don't have any way to prove it one way or the other. The person who told me was a long term SW employee who had started with the company in 1952. He was correct in what he told me about the invention of the roller cover and the resealable paint can so I don't have any reason to doubt him though. (SW collected royalties on every paint can of the type in use today until the late 70's, when they sold the rights during their "troubles".)

This question was posed and answered some time last year, so I will keep quiet.

Well, I saw your answer and I played dumb. Seems as though you are the grand prize winner! And now the lovely Carol Merrill will draw the curtain and open door number three to reveal what you've won! Jay Stewart, tell lilpaintchic what she's won for herself!

There's a reason why it's called Lake eerie!
There is a surf club in Cleveland believe it or not! In the winter they surf the wake from a sewage discharge pipe. Honest to god. I've seen it with mine own eyes I have.

That was the craziest thing I ever seen next to them stupid Okies pulling 100 pound fish out of the lake with their bare hands.

What a game last night, PACman. They came up short, but, oh what a Game 7 it was. SW got its share of advertising out of this World Series.
