Switching it up

Hi, Ive been here before but couldn't for the life of me remember my login info. Any way, as of now we use all sherwin Williams paints. We are thinking of making the switch to ppg. My question is about trim paint. Right now we use pro classic latex exclusively. We find it to be a great trim, but we got a new rep through ppg and our prices are noticeably better. What would you guys recommend for a trim paint from ppg?I know in our area we have have ppg, porter, glidden, and Pittsburgh. All help is greatly appreciated.

Advantage 900 is what I would recommend from PPG for trim paint. To me it seems a tad bit thicker than S.W. Pro Classic.

Just making the switch ourselves and had this exact conversation with my ppg rep today. He's suggestion is manor hall satin. FF tip looks fantastic with a luster similar to oil impervo is what he said. What do you guys think?
And YES. prices are Wayyyyyyyy better than sw. On better products that we can see so far. Also, beyter prices on sundries and a higher quality of product there also. Make the switch. You won't look back. They will deliver, just need a little more lead time and the convienence is akward...but that just makes me be more organized and make more profit.

They don't sale manor hall in my area, which is quite unfortunate because of the good things I've heard about it.

We used to use porter exclusively until all the ppg buyout happened. My father switch to sw because of the constant formula changes for a while. He used quite a bit of advantage 900, but seems unwilling to give it a go again. He thought it didn't cover the greatest and tacked a little fast. He also extremely old school though, so that may have a lot to do with it

We would also need a ceiling paint. We use chb right now. Any recommendations for that as well?

We've been using ultra hide 250. So far so good....

PPG premium ceiling paint. 17-21 or something like that. One of the best products I have ever sold. I have no idea what brand it is now though! Maybe 17-29. I'll check the website and get back to you.

It's 17-35. At least I was getting closer!

Qualitypainting_812 10-14-2016 05:20 PM

Thanks guys. With prices continuing to go up sw we gotta do something different.

Porter Advantage 900 is the closest to ProClassic. When it comes to ceiling paints, CHB is a cross fill of PM400--it's a regional product created to combat perceived "touch up" issues with PM400 years ago. The company is trying to get away from the regional products because the national ones make more money on the district P & L.

If cost isn't an issue and you want pristine ceilings, you may want to try out the Ben Moore Muresco. I think it retails for around $35, but contractors with a good relationship at the dealer will get a better price. No relationship = low discount. Same goes for Ben Moore Advance. Same story as for discounting, but IMO, much better than ProClassic or Adv 900.

PPG's ceiling paint PP9585 is what I use the most. You should be able to get a good price on it too.

In my store they have the Diamond 350, which was a Glidden paint. It has been my favorite SG for years.
