problem is in Fl it's not unusual for out of state area codes plus they spoof local numbers too.

not answering a call could cost you a job .... my cell phone does have 2 lines so after i bid a job i give out my "direct" line and answner that line

still a BIG problem, hate being in the middle of something to find a robo call

It's the same for me, tons of out of state calls, but local ones, also.

Hmm, do you really think I could be missing out on legit inquiries? I have thought if it were legit they would leave a message.

Sometimes the unwanted caller will leave a message, but not often. Either it's Google worried about my website disappearing or the millions of dollars of business loans I'm pre-approved for.

I never answer my phone if I do not recognize the number. Am I missing work? maybe, do I care? nope.

Yes fauxlynn your losing good leads not answering calls
After i get the job i always ask HO how they found me, reason they choose me,
did they contact any other contractors ect .... helps me grow my business and let's me know what HO are looking for, where they are shopping ( google, radio, facebook , ect ) and MANY tell me that they have a hard time finding a contractor to answner their phone. They feel like if your too busy to answner they need to find someone else.

1 thing i try hard to do is answner phone, return e-mails asap
shows i am on top of my company & value their time

BTW ... i want to sell my company in 6 years so building it up is important, if i was only trying to stay busy i wouldn't care about missed calls

we're turning 3 job a week, getting 12- 15 calls / e-mails / web hit a week so
staying in contact is what keeps the machine ticking

My business card has the usual contact number listed but also a "Direct Number" so once i meet a customer they have a direct number to call me, makes them feel special

you can get a second line for your cell for $3.99 and if you NEVER use it online, only give it to customers, NEVER use it in advertisement it will cut down on robo calls ... when it rings it's a money call

https://www.godaddy.com/smartline/second-phone-number

that's a link to adding a second line, you even get voice mail & text with it

BTW ... does anyone use this?

Thank you, RePaintFlorida.

I need to start thinking about things differently, I'm going to look into that second line.

If I'm busy working and don't recognize the number I let it go. My thoughts are that by now everyone is getting the robocalls and they understand why the call goes unanswered. If they leave a voicemail I return the call immediately. That being said, I totally understand and even agree with Repaint's logic. I think I will look into the 2nd number.

I wish I could. Mine rings all day long. My phone is too dang big to carry around all day, and I'm up on a ladder going at it, and it's a chick calling to check to see if I want that big line of credit she's got for me. No thanks. Voicemail is there for a reason.

I have a forwarding number for the business. I used to have it forwarded to an answering service which was awesome. However, the robo calls ruined it. There's times when I can 10+ a day and the answering service charges whether it's robo or not so I gave it up.

I then had it forwarded to my cellphone but having it ring nonstop all day drove me crazy so now it goes straight to voicemail.

Ditto on the phone. The last time I tried to answer it while working, I dropped it 4 feet onto a concrete floor, shattering the screen. That's the last day I answered while working. I've never been "phone guy." I hate the phone even though it represents WORK. I mean, just one or two long-winded "tire kickers" can eat up a half hour of your work day.
