Default Education & Training

I know that painting is an industry that is generally not known to offer educational or training programs (or at least, that's MY understanding), but would anyone know if there are any educational or training programs available for painting?

Probably one of the best bets is the (GASP!) union.....and I'm not a union type guy. I was lucky to be taught by some old Master type painters, and back in the 80's and 90's there were seminars and some classes available. Aot was self taught, reading alot of data sheets, trying different products. Business wise, some of the community colleges offer decent night courses. Ask your local paint rep or store personnel if they know of anything. I think the PDCA may have something also, though you'd need to check with a current member.

Sad to say, alot of painters want nothing to do with formal training type classes. I guess they have better things to do with their time. If the current RRP legislation is any indication of what's to come when using certain products, you can bet there will be classes for certification.

I don't know about the Great White North, but many many tech-voc schools have a paint shop here, south of the border.

Before I disassociated myself with the NGPP, we held meetings occasionally at ones in Marlboro MA, Somerville MA, and Media PA. These definitely are not the only ones around.

And as Wolf says, Unions have terrific programs to train painters.
