Default This forum is fantastic!

Hey everyone my name is Austin I enjoy long walks on the beach and am looking for someone who is..oh wait, sorry wrong website!
I've loved everything real estate since I got my first real estate license at 18, currently hold 5 of them and am a state certified appraiser.
I found this forum when looking up information on painting and starting my first contractor company. I currently work for my father's roofing company as an estimator/sales person/ supervisor. I am going to school to get a construction technology degree though I don't really want to go as I'm obsessed about starting up my own business and eventually having a real estate development firm. But first I'm going to try to start a painting company!
To be honest I've been lurking this forum for a couple of weeks and just decided to join..kinda creepy I know but the information on this website is unbelievable! Thank you to everyone who is willing to help as it means the world to me! Oh and I'm 21 if anyone was wondering.

Welcome Austin. I like your enthusiasm.

Do you have any experience painting professionally?

Ha sorry I keep adding more to this post. But yes I do. While not as much as I'd like. I've painted on many jobs.
How about yourself. Probably a dumb question. I know hah

I've been at it for about 43 years although I had another career besides having a painting company.

Where i come from most estimators have never touched a can of paint. Owners for the most part either. A roofing company estimator could no problem make a move and become a paint contractor estimator.

Well that's good to hear. To be honest I've quite nervous about the process but hearing that most certainly helps. So thanks!
But as for estimators never doing the labor, I agree most never do. It's just my father wanted me to pay my dues before I could start selling anything haha.

RH may not reply to that question for awhile. He's probably laying down for his nap now cuz he's kind of "seniorish".

I was a teacher for 30 plus years while also being the co-owner of a painting company for most of those.

welcome Austin, Slinger and I are in earlier time zones (Central and Eastern) from RH (Pacific), so we have already taken our respective naps. RH gets a little cranky this time of day

I've been in the paint related trades since about 71 (NO, not 1871). When I was getting started painting, I wish there was a forum such as this. I also wish I had learned both brush and business skills from other established painters, but I too was in a rush to get out of the gate and start running.

You got a life ahead of you, take what time you need to learn how to be successful.

good luck

Welcome, Austin. I started working construction in 1967, started painting in '73, and started on my own in '79.
