Default Hello

So I came across this site a couple times in the past and I just decided to register. I am a Paint & Hardware retailer with about 20 years in the business. I have been lucky enough to visit some paint manufacturing plants over the years and see how that stuff in the can is actually made and the chemistry behind it. I have used and sold what I think is a pretty good variety of brands from Dutch Boy, Glidden, Moore's, Pratt, Cabot, Valspar, Pittsburg and my favorite, California Paints and more. So I'm here to see whats going on, get some new insights I can share and perhaps lend a few.

Cool, what paint and hardware store do you run - and what products are you currently selling now? I was sad when the Hardware store in north reading went out of business last year - they were stocked to the hilt with california paint.

Rounds Hardware 290 Main St. Stoneham. End of Montvale Ave. California is our main line. I think if you liked N.Reading's selection you'll love ours. We have just about everything they make with a few exceptions. Come on by and see us. ~Ben 781-438-0116

Thanks, Ben, I will visit over the next few weeks. Although I hate the fact that I have to drive farther and farther away just to get paint. You use to carry P&L, correct? Can I ask you, why does every paint store seem to dump P&L after some point? I love that paint and once a paint store picks it up, couple years later they seem to dump it.

In my opinion P&L made a great paint, but they never really caught on big in any one market to my knowledge. They typically were always the second brand added to a stores selection for variety. They went into the ACE hardware warehouse about 10 or so years back and that was (I think) their biggest account, so you saw them alot in Ace hardware's for example. About 3 years back Ace brought in Ben Moore to their warehouse (which angered alot of older BM dealers). So that had an impact also. We did not have P&L to my knowledge, but alot of my experience has been on the south shore. I suppose it comes down to simple numbers. Is widget X making us money and are people looking for it over widget Y which will do the same thing and a similar quality. Hope that answers your query, somewhat at least.

If I was going to open a paint store I think the Hamilton design center back in the day did it right - they stocked California, P&L, & Muralo. That's exactly the brands I would stock.
