Default Hello from Brisbane

Hello there, pleased to meet you all.
I originally hail from Glasgow, Scotland but relocated to Brisbane about 2 years ago where I run a small painting company. Our work varies from modern new build, repainting Queenslanders (the local stilted weatherboard houses typically with vj interiors), applying epoxy flooring paints, roof painting/restoration that sort of thing.
Brush of choice Purdy XL though increasingly I'm finding myself with a spray gun in my hand (Graco Truecoat fine finish or 395 airless).

Cheers guys,

@Brian - We mainly deal with Dulux, Weathershield for exteriors, Wash and Wear on interiors. Super Enamel on interior trim and Aquanamel for exterior trim. In all honesty I don't have much experience with any other brands over here - I've used Resene on a couple of jobs and have no complaints. I once used Wattyl ID on a job at a customers request and it was terrible - horrible low voc nonsense just doesn't work in this climate.
How about yourself?

Gus ,
tried Haymes, Solver, Wattyl and Taubmans , Bristol and PPG but now running with Dulux and been a Dulux accredited painter for 5 years. The best thing I did in 35 years' in the trade.
Ben the Painter and repaintpro are Australian Dulux accredited painters here and regular contributors on this forum.

Nice one, that's good to know. I was a Dulux customer back in Scotland for about 8 years and was never disappointed so have stuck with them. Would you recommend becoming accredited then? Does it help to pick up business? Are there any other benefits?

yes, you will get more business but they scrutinise you thoroughly to see if you cut the mustard. They will want to see your work and you need testimonials from your customers.

G'day Gus

Welcome to Painttalk : ) and OZ : )

Like Brian said im also a Dulux Acredited member maybe four or five years and very proud to be : ) if you are already using Dulux paint and have that relationship with
Your rep that's the first step : ) have a chat with your rep ask about the program . I get some good jobs over the years being part of the program but personally the
Biggest thing I take away from being a member is to be able to use there logo and branding to add to mine so basically just offering something other painters don't

As no other paint company's in Australia that I know of ? Offer such a program so for me if you do a great job and proud of your work and use Dulux
Speak to your Rep and join the program you will find it will only add to your image : )

Cheers Ben

Thanks Ben,

It's definitely something I'm going to look into further.
My rep has just changed actually. But the new one was out visiting me on site a couple of weeks ago - she had asked if I would be interested in the programme, she's popping back next week so I'll quiz her a little further.
I was at a bit of a crossroads to be honest last time i spoke to her, at the time it was just myself and one other painter and I had enough work that we'd be busy for the next 4-5 months. I wasn't that keen to be honest. I've since bitten the bullet and hired another couple of guys, so more work sounds a bit less of a daunting concept than before.
Onwards and upwards and that sort of thing[breathheld]hopefully[/breathheld]
